Short-term training program on writing news articles for online newspapers.

On April 24, 2023, the Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities signed Decision No. 1344 on the promulgation of the Short-Term Training Program on Writing News Articles for Online Newspapers, developed by the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training. Specifically, it is as follows:

1. General information about the training program

- Training program name: Skills in writing news articles for online newspapers
- Target audience:
+ Students currently studying or who have graduated from university or college and wish to work in the field of journalism and media.
+ Individuals who want to work in the field of online journalism and digital content creation.
+ Individuals currently working in the field of journalism and media but lacking a relevant degree need to obtain professional certifications to complete their application for recruitment/promotion to civil servant positions.
+ Anyone interested in or passionate about journalism and media
- Training unit: Lecturers from the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training (University of Social Sciences and Humanities) in collaboration with experienced journalists from media organizations.
- Certificate name: Skills in writing news articles for online newspapers
(English title: Writing for the Electronic Media)
- Certification body: University of Social Sciences and Humanities

2. Training Objectives

The Journalism and Media Professional Training Program equips learners with the basic and essential knowledge in writing news articles for online newspapers. After the course, learners will have the expertise and confidence to work in media organizations and effectively apply the knowledge they have learned to practical work.

3.1. Regarding knowledge
- Possess a solid understanding of online journalism.
- Possess a thorough understanding of different types of online journalism and genres of works.
- Understand the process of handling and publishing news and creating content for online newspapers.

- Professional skills: Proficient in accessing and performing professional tasks such as news source development, interviewing, information processing, photography, article organization, and editing works for online newspapers.
- Personal skills: Possesses the ability to work independently and use equipment and tools to organize journalistic works.
- Teamwork skills: The ability to coordinate within a team, always listen to and respect the opinions of team members, ensuring work efficiency and product quality.
3.3. Regarding moral qualities:
Cultivate professional ethics and comply with legal regulations regarding television journalism.
3.4. Job position and professional development opportunities
- Graduates can work as reporters or editors at media organizations; manage content or write articles for websites or internal communication publications of organizations or businesses; or work as content creators on mass media platforms…

4. Structure of the training program:

Total accumulated hours: 45 lessons, including:
-Number of theoretical hours: 30 lessons
-Number of practical hours: 10 lessons

4 Skills in organizing multimedia journalistic works 5 - Basic concepts, characteristics, and role of multimedia content organization models.
- Methods and skills for organizing multimedia works
- Some typical forms of multimedia works from modern online news organizations.
5 Practice 10 Practice in organizing and creating multimedia works for online newspapers.
Total 45  
The modules are based on subjects in the undergraduate journalism program: Writing skills for online newspapers, Editing skills, Photojournalism, Multimedia communication, etc.
The topics may be adjusted or modified by up to 20% of the total course duration based on professional practice and student needs.

6. Forms of assessment and evaluation of learning outcomes for the course:

After 45 lessons providing fundamental knowledge, students will complete a final exam consisting of news reports, feature articles, or interviews for online newspapers. Students will receive a graduation certificate upon meeting the following requirements:
- Attend at least 80% of class time.
- Achieve a minimum score of 5/10 on the final exam.
