The species name is called a scientific epithet, which indicates a certain characteristic of the species to distinguish it from species of the same genus and is not capitalized. An epithet can be an adjective or a noun.

For Latin names of medicinal plants, the basis for identification mainly comes from the place name where the species grows or where the species was first discovered; or the name of the person who discovered and described the species; or based on the specific characteristics of the species, the Latin name with common meaning is attached to the species name, thereby knowing the specific characteristics of color, shape, aroma, ecological region, etc.
