This dissertation surveys and compares the translation of English-Vietnamese financial terminology, based on a comparative study to translate financial terms from English to Vietnamese. Comparative translation is a research-based translation that ensures the quality of translations of this type of unit, which is the translation of the structural components of terms (words and phrases). It is considered one of the important translation methods with many applications in foreign language teaching and learning, terminology translation, contributing to the standardization of Vietnamese terminology, and serving as a method of evaluating linguistic theory.

This dissertation applies comparative theory to the translation of linguistic units, specifically words and phrases, to identify similarities and differences in order to accurately translate financial terms from English to their equivalents in Vietnamese within the financial field. The dissertation analyzes the comparative translation of English-Vietnamese financial terms at the word and phrase levels through the following steps: comparative analysis of the structural model of English-Vietnamese financial terms at the word and phrase level; comparative analysis of the translation of English-Vietnamese financial terms at the word and phrase level; comparison of naming methods; and proposes a translation aimed at standardizing Vietnamese financial terms: ensuring that Vietnamese financial terms are accurate, systematic, international, and national in nature; eliminating unnecessary and unimportant features; and selecting unique naming characteristics to construct financial terms. In cases where the English financial terms translated into Vietnamese are unclear in meaning or are translated explanatoryly or as definitions, the dissertation researches and proposes methods for accurately translating the scientific concept. Translating scientific terminology from English to Vietnamese is a meticulous process, requiring translators to research and explore to obtain Vietnamese translations that meet the criteria of the terminology and are consistent with the naming conventions of scientific terminology. The method of structural translation is extensively utilized in the translation of scientific terminology in general, and English-Vietnamese scientific terminology in particular.

11. Practical applications:

Translating scientific terms involves not only transferring conceptual content from the source language to the target language but also finding ways to construct the term in the target language to express the concept. This is essentially term-structural translation for the target language. Simultaneously, a comparative study of translation through a comparative analysis of the structural models and naming methods of English-Vietnamese scientific terms will contribute to standardizing Vietnamese scientific terms. This thesis is aimed at translators, researchers, linguists, dictionary compilers, teachers, and students interested in linguistics, term translation in general, and English scientific term translation in particular.

12. Further research:

With the initial achievements made in this research, in the near future, we hope to publish a standardized English-Vietnamese, Vietnamese-English comparative dictionary of TNTC (Television, Radio, Television, and Radio) that meets the needs of a wide range of interested readers.
