10. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:

- Clarify the concepts of subregion, subregional cooperation, subregional economic cooperation, and models of subregional cooperation in practice. Simultaneously, identify the characteristics and propose a new concept of subregional cooperation.

- An overview of the origins, content, and ideas of the Vietnam-Northern Coastal Economic Cooperation (VBBMR); the perspectives and implementation status of cooperation by China and ASEAN countries in various stages; and comments and assessments on the current state of cooperation. In particular, the study and analysis of the period from 2013 to the present focuses on the VBBMR Economic Cooperation becoming part of the "Belt and Road Initiative" launched by China. This is a topic not addressed in previous research on VBBMR Cooperation.

- Assess the positive and negative impacts of the VBBMR Economic Cooperation on international relations in Southeast Asia and ASEAN countries in economic, security, foreign policy, and environmental aspects; forecast future cooperation prospects.

- This thesis proposes key policy directions to help Vietnam participate more effectively in the VBBMR Economic Cooperation in the future. Specifically, the thesis suggests a new cooperation approach for Vietnam: Proactive, scientific, and selective.

11. Practical applications:

The solutions, policies, and cooperation principles proposed in this thesis can be used as a reference for developing Vietnam's policies in the expanded Gulf of Tonkin Economic Cooperation.

12. Future research directions:

Assessing the role and impact of expanded Beibu Gulf Economic Cooperation on regional international relations, in the context of China's implementation of the "Belt and Road Initiative".

10. Summary of new findings of the thesis:

- Clarifying related theories on international relations; concepts of subregion, subregional cooperation, subregional economic cooperation and models of subregional cooperation in practice. The most significant contribution of this chapter is defining the features and bringing new definitions on subregional cooperation.

- This thesis covers the origins, contents and ideas of the expanded Pan-Beibu Gulf economic cooperation; viewpoints and the state of implementing the cooperation of China and ASEAN countries in each period; comments and evaluation on the real state of implementing this above cooperation. In particular, the period from 2013 till now is the period in which the expanded Pan-Beibu Gulf economic cooperation became a part of the “One belt, one road” initiative by China. This content has not been mentioned in the previous studies.

- In particular, this thesis focuses on the evaluation on positive and negative impacts of the expanded Pan-Beibu Gulf economic cooperation on international relations in the Southeast Asia and ASEAN countries in terms of economy, security, external diplomacy, environment, etc.; the prediction of the prospects of future cooperation, meanwhile the directions for policy to help Vietnam join the expanded Pan-Beibu Gulf economic cooperation more effectively in the future.

- In particular, the thesis proposes that the motto of cooperation of Vietnam is active, scientific and selective.

11. Practical applicability, if any:

The proposed solutions, policies and guidelines proposed by the thesis can be consulted to support Vietnam's policy formulation in the Pan-Beibu Gulf Economic Cooperation.

12. Further research directions, if any:

Assessing the role and impact of the expanded Pan-Beibu Gulf Economic Cooperation to regional international relations, in the context of the "One belt, one road" initiative was launched by China in 2013.
