The Faculty of Literature is in charge of introducing and translating the work "A Brief History of Vietnamese Literature" to the world.

Based on professional practice, at the Scientific Conference 'Vietnamese and Chinese culture and literature in the context of the digital age"organized by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi in collaboration with the Taiwan Chinese Association (China) in Hanoi on April 1-2, 2023, the issue of the need to have a historical work of Vietnamese literature translated and introduced in Taiwan (China) to represent the voice of Vietnamese scientists abroad was raised by Prof. Tran Ich Nguyen - a leading expert in Vietnamese studies in Taiwan. After the workshop, with direct professional consultation from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Khanh Thanh (Permanent Vice President of the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Art), and support from Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the project of introducing and translatingHistory of Vietnamese Literaturewas initiated on the basis of cooperation between the parties including the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Hien, then Deputy Head of the Faculty of Literature and Director of the Center for Chinese Studies), Thanh Cong University (Professor, Dr. Tran Ich Nguyen) and Hanoi National University of Education (Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ba Cuong, Director of the National University of Education Publishing House).

In July 2023, the discussion of procedural and copyright issues with publishers was initiated. In January 2024, the translation team selected and gathered from prestigious training and research institutions across the country started working. The core of the translation team includes scientists from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi (Faculty of Literature, Faculty of Oriental Studies), in combination with scientists from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Ho Chi Minh City (Faculty of Cultural Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies) and Thanh Cong University (Faculty of Chinese Literature). In early 2025, the entire translation was completed in Traditional Chinese and sent to Wanjuenlou Publishing House in Taiwan for editing and proofreading.
In May 2025, to help Taiwanese readers in particular and the Chinese academic community in general have more scientific information about the birth of the traditional Chinese translation of the workHistory of Taiwanese Literature, Prof. Tran Ich Nguyen and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thu Hien organized a special topic in the JournalNational culture(Taiwan) includes 07 different articles. Besides the Preface for the Traditional Chinese version by Prof. Tran Dinh Su, Prof. Tran Ich Nguyen has an articleTranslator and reviewer's note - Realizing a dream. Faculty of Literature expressed its professional voice with 3 articlesHistory of Vietnamese Literature - A book with many scientific messagesby Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Khanh Thanh,Some notable issues from the work A Brief History of Vietnamese Literatureby Prof. Dr. Tran Nho Thin andTranslation of A Brief History of Vietnamese Literature: A Journey of Academic Cooperation and a Message of Academic Dialogueby Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Hien. The group of articles in the special issue all contribute to affirming the scientific, literary and cultural mission ofHistory of Vietnamese Literature- a book that covers the entire process of Vietnamese literature from the beginning to the present, highlighting the basic characteristics, typical trends and outstanding authors in each literary period. From rich materials, the book has clarified the cultural identity of Vietnam in the process of cultural assimilation in the region and the world.

ProjectHistory of Vietnamese Literaturetranslated into Traditional Chinese and published in Taiwan is the result of a long-term cooperation between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi and Cheng Kung University (Taiwan, China) with the particularly important academic connection role of Professor Tran Ich Nguyen, a scientist who has devoted his whole life to the research of Vietnamese culture and literature as well as constantly making efforts to connect and build a community of research on Vietnamese culture and literature in Taiwan.
The success of the project to introduce and translate the work A Brief History of Vietnamese Literature to the world shows the pioneering spirit and responsibility of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi in promoting international academic exchanges in basic scientific research; at the same time, it also shows the open spirit and liberal vision of the University in connecting and building networks and academic research teams in Vietnam. Contributing to that success, the staff and lecturers of the Faculty of Literature (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thu Hien, MSc. Nguyen Thanh Dien, Dr. Ngo Viet Hoan) have demonstrated national responsibility, affirmed international academic capacity and enhanced the position of the unit on the world academic map.
