Attending the opening ceremony were, from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Rector), and Mr. Nguyen Van Thuy (Head of the Inspection and Legal Affairs Department, Deputy Commander of the University's Military Command); from the University of Natural Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Hoang Linh (Party Secretary, Rector, Deputy Commander) and Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh (Party Branch Secretary, Head of the Political and Student Affairs Department, Deputy Political Commissar). Also present were nearly 60 members of the two platoons of the university's on-site self-defense forces.

In his opening remarks, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Hoang Linh stated that the 2020 training course took place under very special circumstances due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the hot summer weather conditions. However, he emphasized that the task of raising awareness of political duties and military skills, and being ready to meet mission requirements, is crucial. He predicted that with a core force of young officers, the militia platoons of the two schools would successfully complete the 2020 training course.

On behalf of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan highly appreciated the organization and coordination of the self-defense forces of the two universities over the past years. Professor Hoang Anh Tuan extended his best wishes for good health to the self-defense militia members and expressed his confidence that the officers and soldiers would successfully complete the training course, contributing to the common tasks of the two universities in 2020.
Following the directives from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Hoang Linh and Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, on behalf of the militia platoon, disseminated the 2020 training program and plan to the self-defense force soldiers. According to the plan approved by the Thanh Xuan District Military Command, the 2020 self-defense training will take place from July 15th to July 23rd with two main contents: political and military. Regarding politics, the two militia platoons will study and absorb the following contents: Some basic contents of the 2019 amended Law on Militia and Self-Defense; the national defense and security situation and the protection of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; the "peaceful evolution" strategy of hostile forces against the Vietnamese revolution...; regarding military, the self-defense force will train at the University of Science campus with techniques and tactics such as basic combat postures and movements. The training includes grenade throwing techniques, shooting practice in various positions; general knowledge of some types of explosives and explosive devices; some types of enemy mines and how to neutralize them… At the end of the training period, the self-defense forces of the two schools will participate in the Sports Festival organized by the Thanh Xuan District Military Command.
