The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, formerly Hanoi University, is not only the cradle of Vietnamese knowledge but also the place where many outstanding individuals set aside their studies to go to war, contributing to the glorious victory of the nation. Behind that glorious victory lie long stretches of stone monuments and immeasurable losses for the Vietnamese people. Some soldiers "live on" at the age of 20, while others were more fortunate to return but became wounded veterans. All these losses and sacrifices bear the mark of students from the former Hanoi University, the predecessor of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Therefore, every year the University organizes a cordial gathering to express gratitude for the contributions of faculty members who are wounded veterans and family members of fallen soldiers.

Attending this year's meeting were Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh - Rector of the University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Hai - Chairman of the Veterans Association, along with members of the Executive Committee of the Veterans Association, the Standing Committee of the University's Trade Union, Dr. Tran Bach Hieu - Secretary of the University's Youth Union, students, and especially four staff members who are war invalids, sick soldiers, and relatives of martyrs.
Professor Pham Quang Minh, on behalf of the University's leadership, presented gifts and expressed profound gratitude to the teachers who are war invalids, wounded soldiers, and family members of martyrs. They contributed to the defense of the country during wartime and actively participated in fulfilling educational tasks, contributing to the University's "nurturing of human resources." He also expressed his belief that the teaching staff will continue to uphold the University's fine traditions, leading the way in all endeavors and serving as role models for faculty and students. Professor Pham Quang Minh also hoped that in the future, the leadership and the entire faculty and student body of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities would have more meaningful activities for the families of war invalids, martyrs, and former military personnel within the University.

Associate Professor Pham Ngoc Thanh, a veteran of the University, on behalf of the staff and faculty who are war invalids, sick soldiers, and relatives of martyrs, expressed gratitude to the Party Committee, the Board of Directors, the organizations and all staff and students of the University for their continuous care for the staff and faculty who are war invalids, sick soldiers, and relatives of martyrs.
Professor Pham Quang Minh also shared his thoughts with the students present at the ceremony, those who will follow in the footsteps of their predecessors in building and developing the country. He praised the students, saying, “Today I am truly surprised, because there are many more students in the seats below than in previous years. I feel a continuity between the past and the present, between today's young generation and previous generations. Your presence today makes me proud and I cherish that.”
Professor Pham Quang Minh also advised students to visit historical sites such as the Cu Chi Tunnels or the Truong Son Cemetery at least once.

Associate Professor Pham Thanh Hung, a veteran of the school, shared: “No literary work can realistically depict war if the author has never been to the battlefield, and no one can teach war literature if they have never held a gun. Students studying at the School of Humanities have a great opportunity and advantage over students from other schools because the teachers were once soldiers.”

Associate Professor Pham Thanh Hung delivered a speech at the ceremony.
After listening to their teachers recount profound memories and experiences from the battlefield, and their personal feelings during those glorious years of the nation's history, the students expressed their wish that future generations of students would have more opportunities to interact with their teachers – living witnesses of history – to learn more about history and the contributions of previous generations, thereby striving even harder to build the country.

The teachers took a commemorative photo with the students.
Immediately following the meeting, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, in collaboration with the Coast Guard Training and Professional Development Center and the Vietnam Senior Citizens' Cultural Center, held an art exchange event to express gratitude to the teachers.
