Social sciences and humanities in the digital age

In the context that the whole country is vigorously implementing resolutions on science and technology development, innovation, digital transformation and educational breakthroughs, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi enters the 80th anniversary of tradition and 30th anniversary of establishment with the mindset of a research-oriented university, continuing to affirm its leading role in the digital age.
From the Faculty of Letters established by President Ho Chi Minh just one month after the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was founded, to Hanoi University of Science in 1956, the School of Social Sciences and Humanities under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi since 1995, the school bearing the mark of Faculty of Letters - General has accompanied the country's great turning points, training tens of thousands of intellectuals, scientists, leaders and managers in many fields. Currently, the school has 15 faculties, 2 institutes, 1 Specialized High School with more than 500 staff, of which about 80% of lecturers have doctoral degrees.
Entering a new phase, the University aims to become a smart university, with cutting-edge research, linked to major national problems, while preserving and spreading Vietnamese cultural values. By 2035, the University strives to be among the top 100 universities in Asia and the top 450 universities in the world in the field of social sciences and humanities.
Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, said:"The school's philosophy generally consists of three words: culture, modernity, and openness; tradition is the foundation and strength for the school to develop in the future, making practical contributions to the country."
In the development strategy of Hanoi National University, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is identified as a core unit in the social sciences and humanities sector, undertaking research directions on culture, people, institutions and sustainable development, associated with the goal of building an elite university and top-notch research.
Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Minh Son, Director of Hanoi National University, shared:"The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is a key university within the Vietnam National University, Hanoi and must become a university that trains elites and conducts cutting-edge research in the fields of social sciences and humanities, linked to research fields, solving major problems that impact the country, training and nurturing talents, then leading scientists, and great intellectuals for the country."
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Kim Son, Minister of Education and Training, emphasized: "We believe that with its tradition, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will continue to demonstrate its leading role in the field of social sciences and humanities of the country and make further great contributions to the cause of developing science and technology, education and training, and developing people and the country in the present and the future."
