80 years of tradition of "Civilization - Modernity - Enlightenment"
The 80th Anniversary Ceremony of tradition and 30th anniversary of establishment was honored to welcome the leaders of the Party and State, representatives of the leaders of ministries, security, central branches, provinces, cities and many generations of leaders, staff, lecturers and students of the school.
At the Anniversary Ceremony, on behalf of the Government and Prime Minister, Comrade Le Thanh Long - Deputy Prime Minister sent his warmest congratulations to generations of teachers, officials, civil servants, workers and students of the school.
Comrade Le Thanh Long emphasized that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi is a university with a long history; the birthplace of many of the first modern social sciences and humanities in Vietnam, creating the premise for other fields to develop, gradually affirming its position in academic life in the country, in the region and in the world. 80 years ago, just a few days after the victory of the August Revolution in 1945, the Faculty of Letters - the predecessor of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi was born. During 80 years of formation and development, with different names, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has gone through a special historical journey, closely associated with the historical stages of the nation.
During the arduous years of resistance war, in addition to imparting valuable knowledge amidst bombs and bullets, many lecturers of the School bravely and determinedly wrote applications to volunteer to go to war with their own blood; many students also temporarily put down their pens and took up arms to go to the front line to answer the call of the country.
In the current period of national construction and development, many generations of students of the School have grown up and succeeded in many fields, making important contributions to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. In particular, Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, former General Secretary of the Party Central Committee, is also a former student of the School's Faculty of Literature. This is a source of pride, affirming the School's role in the cause of education and training as well as in the work of building a team of strategic cadres of the Party and State.

In his speech at the Anniversary Ceremony, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Principal of the school said that on October 10, 2025, Comrade To Lam - General Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam sent a congratulatory letter to the school's cadres, civil servants, employees and students on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of tradition and 30th anniversary of establishment.
The General Secretary expressed his belief and hope that, “with the philosophy of Culture - Modernity - Openness and the spirit of innovation, the University will continue to develop in a breakthrough way, combining tradition and innovation, culture and the times, academia and integration, elite and popular; by 2030, some fields of social sciences and humanities of the University will be ranked in the top 150 universities in Asia”. The General Secretary also wished the University “to continue to be a school of intelligence, humanity and aspiration; a place to nurture talents, create knowledge, contribute to building the cultural foundation, Vietnamese people and spread the good values ​​of the nation to the world”. The General Secretary's directive and belief in the success of the University is a great encouragement for teachers and students of the University to focus on innovation and breakthrough development in the coming time. Rector Hoang Anh Tuan affirmed that, closely following the Strategic Resolutions of the Politburo, the Action Program of the Government and the Master Plan of VNU, the University is preparing to issue the Development Strategy to 2035 - vision 2045, focusing on 5 key tasks in the immediate future.
That is to promote the restructuring of the organizational apparatus in the direction of streamlining and strengthening, perfecting the modern digital university management, promoting the internationalization of training and research activities... turning the University into an elite, progressive research university center, serving society, building the nation, by 2030, some training fields will be ranked in the top 150 continents. Breakthrough in developing the team, attracting talent, training excellent leading experts, building a community of excellent lecturers, a team of good and dedicated managers, professional and serving administrative staff.
Strongly adjust the planning and develop the training program structure towards multi-disciplinary, interdisciplinary, cross-disciplinary, internationalization, basic science as the foundation for applied science... thereby providing a team of highly qualified human resources, talents in the field of social sciences and humanities for the country in the new era. Continue to promote international publications in harmony with national publications, implement key - long-term scientific programs with clusters of excellent scientific products, continue to aim for prestigious national - international scientific awards, top policy advice for the central and local levels. Build a financial strategy in line with university autonomy; harmoniously develop the inner city space and Hoa Lac campus to expand the development space for the School.

The achievements of the School in recent times are the result of the sense of responsibility, creativity and innovation of generations of teachers and students as well as the enthusiastic support from the leaders of the Party, State, relevant agencies and partners.
The school leaders expressed their deep gratitude to the former leaders and generations of teachers who have always been dedicated to the school, devoted to the industry, devoted to the profession, joined hands to build achievements and foster the reputation of an intellectual, humane school, imbued with national identity and full of liberal spirit.
