There are about60 universitiesUse the results of the Hanoi National University's Aptitude Test (HAS) as a basis for admission. Candidates need to carefully study the test structure, detailed outline and test-taking methods to review and get the best score.
1. Exam structure:
The Hanoi National University (VNU)'s high school student competency assessment test is designed to assess the core competencies required of high school students to achieve according to the general education program and in accordance with the standards and trends of competency assessment in the world.
Through the knowledge content of the general education program, the test assesses three main groups of competencies: Problem-solving and creativity; Vietnamese language competency, argumentation, logical thinking, calculation, data processing; and Competence in research, discovery and application of science (Nature - Society).
The difficulty of the questions in the exam increases from level 1 to level 3 and is divided according to the following ratio: Level 1: 20%, Level 2: 60%, Level 3: 20%.
The HSA exam consists of 3 parts:
Part 1: Quantitative Thinking (Mathematics, 50 questions – 75 minutes).
Part 2: Qualitative thinking (Literature - Language, 50 questions - 60 minutes), Part 3 - Science (Nature - Society, 50 questions - 60 minutes).
The total number of scoring questions is 150 questions, including 132 four-choice multiple-choice questions with only 1 correct answer, 15 fill-in-the-blank questions in Mathematics, and 3 fill-in-the-blank questions in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
Each section contains 50 scored questions, but may include 1-4 unscored test questions. The unscored test questions are mixed in randomly. Tests with test questions will take an additional 2-4 minutes to complete.
Knowledge in parts 1 and 2 is distributed as follows: Part 1 and part 2: Knowledge in grade 10 program: 10%, knowledge in grade 11 program: 20%, knowledge in grade 12 program: 70%.
Part 3: Knowledge in grade 11 curriculum: 30%, Knowledge in grade 12 curriculum: 70%.

3. Exam format, test taking method and scoring method:
The test scores are automatically graded by the Competency Assessment software. The test results are displayed on the computer screen after the candidate finishes the test or after the prescribed test time has expired. The total score for the entire test is 150 points based on the total number of correct answers of the candidate.
Each correct answer is worth 1 point, incorrect answers or no answers are not counted (test questions are not counted). The test score is the sum of the three parts, each part is worth a maximum of 50 points.
The scoreboard includes a total score (maximum 150 points) and 3 component scores: Quantitative Thinking, Qualitative Thinking, and Science.
4. Things to note:
- The test time is 195 minutes. Students need to have a reasonable review and rest plan to ensure good health and high concentration during the test.
- Before going to the exam location, you need to check again to make sure you have brought all necessary ID cards, study materials, geography atlas (if needed), and personal computers must be on the list of computers allowed in the exam room.
- When entering the exam room, before starting the test, candidates need to read the Exam Regulations Instructions carefully.
- You should plan your travel time to arrive at the exam location 15 minutes before the exam starts to complete the procedures.
