The Hanoi National University (VNU) high school student competency assessment test is designed to evaluate the core competencies that high school students need to achieve according to the general education program and is in line with global competency assessment standards and trends.
Based on the knowledge content of the general education curriculum, the exam assesses three main competency groups: Problem-solving and creative skills; Vietnamese language skills, reasoning, logical thinking, calculation, and data processing; and the ability to explore, discover, and apply science (Natural and Social Sciences).
The difficulty of the questions in the exam increases progressively from level 1 to level 3 and is distributed as follows: Level 1: 20%, Level 2: 60%, Level 3: 20%.
The HSA exam consists of three parts:

Part 2: Qualitative Reasoning (Literature - Language, 50 questions - 60 minutes), Part 3 - Science (Natural - Social Sciences, 50 questions - 60 minutes).
The total number of questions to be graded is 150, including 132 multiple-choice questions with only one correct answer, 15 fill-in-the-blank questions in Mathematics, and 3 fill-in-the-blank questions in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
Each section contains 50 graded questions, but may include 1-4 ungraded practice questions. These ungraded practice questions are randomly shuffled. Tests with practice questions will have an additional 2-4 minutes allotted for completion.
