The University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), Vietnam National University, Hanoi, will apply a new admission method for postgraduate programs: evaluating applications and interviewing candidates for all 44 master's degree majors. This replaces the traditional examination method (where candidates had to write essays on two core subjects, each lasting 180 minutes).
"Through the evaluation of applications and interviews with candidates, the school will assess their abilities, thinking skills, attitudes, skills, interests, talents, etc., to supplement the accuracy of their capabilities, attitudes, and career inclinations according to the major they are applying for.""Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, stated."
Through the interview process, candidates receive a more comprehensive assessment of their knowledge, communication skills, critical thinking, and motivation for learning, in addition to the scores shown in their application. Simultaneously, the school gains insight into the candidate's aspirations, goals, and study, research, and development plans, enabling better support and guidance for future studies at the school, provided the candidate meets the admission requirements.
This is also the postgraduate admissions method that leading universities around the world have been using for many years.
In 2022, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, implemented several new policies to support students and attract high-quality applicants.
The university applies a special direct admission policy, whereby students with a GPA of "good" or higher in all disciplines accredited according to the standards of the Ministry of Education and Training or reputable international accreditation organizations (AUN-QA, ABET, etc.) are directly admitted to postgraduate programs.
High-achieving students are not only directly admitted to their chosen major but also have the option to be directly admitted to related fields. For example, graduates with honors in Journalism, Public Relations, Multimedia Communication, or International Communication can all be directly admitted to Journalism or Media Management programs.
Students majoring in Political Science, International Relations, Public Administration, and Party and State Building are all eligible for direct admission to the Political Science program. Students with a GPA of excellent or higher in the relevant or related field are also eligible to apply for doctoral programs.
In addition, there are 13 specialized majors that will admit students from all majors (after completing supplementary knowledge conversion courses), including: Journalism (application-oriented), Public Policy; Political Science (application-oriented); Social Work (application-oriented); Tourism Studies; Library and Information Science (application-oriented); Theory and History of Film and Television; Science and Technology Management (research-oriented); Science and Technology Management (application-oriented); Cultural Management; Office Administration (application-oriented); Media and Communication Management; and Religious Studies (application-oriented).

These include organizing many international conferences and publishing proceedings with ISBN numbers in foreign languages, placing doctoral students in strong research groups, and participating in research projects led by the university's faculty. Currently, faculty members of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities are leading 11 national-level key projects, state-level projects, and dozens of projects funded by various foundations, ministries, and the Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
