"Conference on Dialogue on Asian Civilizations and the 2019 Mekong River Countries Young Leaders Cultural Exchange Camp"

From May 14th to May 23rd, 2019, 12 students and 3 staff members from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities represented Vietnam in exchange programs in Beijing and Kunming (Yunnan Province, China) within the framework of the "Asian Civilization Dialogue Conference and the 2019 Mekong River Countries Young Leaders Cultural Exchange Camp".

The journey is divided into two consecutive stages:

Stage 1: from May 14th to May 17th, 2019 in Beijing.

Representatives from Vietnam, along with representatives from many Asian countries, attended a forum on the responsibility of youth in promoting Asian civilization heritage at the China National Convention Center, listening to presentations from leaders and scholars from China, Malaysia, India, South Korea, and Singapore on the responsibility of youth in building a shared future for the Asian community.

In addition to attending conferences and seminars, you will also have the opportunity to participate in cultural exchange programs such as: the Asian Cultural Festival – a national art performance program held at the Bird's Nest Stadium; and a visit to the Soong Ching Ling Chinese Cultural and Scientific Center – where you can experience traditional Chinese cultural activities such as fabric dyeing, calligraphy, sculpture making, etc.

Before leaving the capital for Kunming, young people from six countries in the Mekong River region also had the opportunity to share their personal stories about Chinese culture and initiatives to enhance cultural exchange and understanding between nations.

The Vietnamese representatives presented a spectacular theatrical performance on the theme of how Vietnamese youth approach Chinese culture..

Stage 2: from May 17th to May 23rd, 2019 in Kunming, Yunnan Province.

Representatives from Vietnam, along with youth representatives from six Mekong River countries: Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and China, traveled from Beijing to Kunming to participate in the 2019 Mekong River Youth Leaders Cultural Exchange Camp. Organized by the China Youth Association and the Yunnan Provincial Youth Association, the program aims to promote understanding and sharing of the common culture of the Mekong River basin countries through cultural exchange forums and performances of folk art showcasing the unique national culture of each country.

Delegates from six countries participated in the 2019 Mekong River States Young Leaders Cultural Exchange Program.

Furthermore, the program also provided an opportunity for young people to learn about China's policies towards countries in the region, the economic, educational, and cultural development of China in general, and of ethnic minorities in Yunnan province in particular, through activities such as visiting the Yunnan Ethnic Culture Village, attending the ethnic minority cultural performance: "Yunnan Diversity," visiting the Yunnan Information and Data Center, visiting Yunnan primary schools, visiting universities, physical therapy centers, and Longrun Company – a very famous tea production company in Kunming city. Finally, the program concluded with sharing sessions by young start-ups from Kunming city and sharing sessions by youth from 6 countries about the program.

This is not only an activity for young Vietnamese people to have the opportunity to interact, learn, and respect cultural differences, but also a chance for them to bring the image of Vietnam closer to international friends.
