The meeting focused on the cooperation plan for implementing the "European Project on Historical Research and Digitization of Vietnamese Social Sciences Documents" (Vietnamica). This is one of the projects funded by the European Research Council (ERC - European Union) to research the history, collect, and digitize social sciences documents related to Vietnam. The project gives special priority to the field of Sino-Vietnamese inscriptions, especially those recording the offerings of individuals at places of worship and village communities. In other words, the project aims to research "posthumous steles," a type of inscription that existed continuously from the 15th to the 20th centuries in Vietnam.

The project will be implemented over 5 years with activities including field research; organizing group seminars and workshops; and organizing trips to Europe or Vietnam to consult materials at archives or to teach and participate in seminars for participating members.

The project aims to achieve the following goals: to gather the individual research of its members to publish a book outlining the history of tribute offerings in Vietnam; to establish a digital resource and book for reference; and to organize an international conference to summarize all the research results, documents, and graphics collected over the past five years.

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities will represent Vietnam National University, Hanoi in this project. On behalf of the University, Professor Pham Quang Minh highly appreciated the importance of the project to the development of Sino-Vietnamese studies in particular and Vietnamese studies in general. With a team of long-standing and experienced experts in the Department of Sino-Vietnamese Studies (Faculty of Literature) as well as in the Faculty of History, the University is well-equipped to become an active member of the project. The University will also widely publicize the project, mobilizing the participation of undergraduate students, graduate students, and doctoral candidates interested in this topic.
