Sumitomo Foundation Grant Program 2019

On June 11, 2019, Mr. Kenichi Hamaya, representative of the Sumitomo Foundation (Japan), presented the Foundation's 2018 funding program for the Social Sciences and Humanities. Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (Party Secretary, Vice Rector of the University) and Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Rector of the University) attended the event.

During the meeting, Mr. Kenichi Hamaya provided detailed information on the 2019 funding program, registration requirements, and specific deadlines for submitting applications for each category in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities. Accordingly, research projects eligible for funding must focus on research related to Japan, comparative studies between Vietnam and Japan, etc. The registration period is from September 1st to October 31st, 2019. Mr. Kenichi Hamaya introduced the Sumitomo Foundation's funding program for Southeast Asia for the 2019 academic year.

The maximum funding for each research project is USD 10,000 (2,000,000 yen). Applications must be recommended by a reputable scientist with expertise in the relevant field. The evaluation committee consists of renowned scientists from Vietnam and Japan, with criteria that are fair, objective, and transparent.

Associate Professor Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Rector of the University) shared his experience and encouraged faculty members to submit applications.

The Sumitomo Foundation is a non-profit organization established on September 25, 1991, by 20 companies belonging to the Sumitomo Group to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Besshi Copper Mine in Shikoku, Japan. The Foundation's goal is to contribute to social improvement through scientific research. It funds projects and scientific research that help identify and address societal problems and challenges. In Vietnam, the Foundation has played an active role in promoting scientific research, international publications, and acting as a bridge for academic exchange between Vietnamese and Japanese scientists, as well as fostering friendly relations between the two countries. Many professors and researchers in Vietnam have received funding from the Foundation to carry out their research projects.
