During the working trip to universities and institutes in China from September 11 to 17, 2023, the delegation of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH) led by Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong, together with Dr. Pham Hoang Hung, Head of the Development Cooperation Department, Associate Professor, Dr. Trinh Cam Lan, Head of the Department of Linguistics and Dr. Vu Minh Hai, lecturer of the Department of Linguistics, had many meetings and contacts with Chinese students majoring in Vietnamese at Guangxi Nationalities University, Guilin Academy, Hu Xiangsi Academy, etc.
Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong introduced to Chinese students majoring in Vietnamese about the historical tradition of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the university that was established by a decree signed by President Ho Chi Minh himself just one month after the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was founded. After nearly 80 years of construction and development, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has always been the leading university in the field of training and research in social sciences and humanities in Vietnam, training tens of thousands of bachelors, thousands of masters, and doctors, making practical contributions to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
The school currently has 17 affiliated institutes/faculties/departments, providing a rich system of training programs including 28 undergraduate training programs, 36 master training programs and 30 doctoral training programs. In particular, the Faculty of Linguistics is one of the leading basic science faculties of the school, providing training programs from bachelor to doctorate, with many practical majors such as linguistics, Vietnamese linguistics for foreigners, comparative linguistics, etc. In addition to regular, long-term programs, the Faculty of Linguistics also has many short-term training courses on Vietnamese language and culture for foreigners (from 4 weeks to 1 year), or short-term training courses on Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Vietnamese linguistics for learners in need (with duration from 4 weeks to 1 year).
In addition, the Department of Chinese Studies (Faculty of Oriental Studies) and the Center for Chinese Studies are the focal units of the School, gathering many lecturers and researchers specializing in and rich in experience in Chinese studies. Students majoring in Chinese studies are the core force supporting the School in receiving international students, supporting students from China in their studies and many aspects of life. In particular, the School has many cultural and artistic exchange programs with international students studying at the School.
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is also one of 17 training institutions permitted by the Ministry of Education and Training to organize Vietnamese language proficiency tests and grant certificates to qualified candidates.
Currently, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has more than 200 Chinese students studying short-term programs, and dozens of students and trainees studying in the faculties of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language, Linguistics, International Studies, Political Science, Journalism and Communication. In 2023, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will also attract many Chinese students and postgraduates to study master's and doctoral programs.
