During their working visit to universities and academies in China from September 11th to 17th, 2023, the delegation from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH), led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong, along with Dr. Pham Hoang Hung, Head of the Cooperation and Development Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trinh Cam Lan, Head of the Linguistics Department, and Dr. Vu Minh Hai, lecturer in the Linguistics Department, had numerous meetings and interactions with Chinese students majoring in Vietnamese at Guangxi University of Nationalities, Guilin Academy, and Hu Xiangsi Academy, among others.
Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong introduced the Chinese students majoring in Vietnamese to the historical traditions of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, a university personally established by President Ho Chi Minh's decree just one month after the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. After nearly 80 years of development, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has consistently been a leading university in the field of training and research in social sciences and humanities in Vietnam, training tens of thousands of bachelors, thousands of masters, and doctoral graduates, making practical contributions to the cause of national construction and defense.
The university currently has 17 affiliated institutes/faculties/departments, offering a diverse range of training programs including 28 undergraduate programs, 36 master's programs, and 30 doctoral programs. Among them, the Faculty of Linguistics is one of the leading basic science faculties of the university, providing training programs from undergraduate to doctoral levels, with many practical specializations such as linguistics, Vietnamese linguistics for foreigners, comparative linguistics, etc. Besides regular, long-term programs, the Faculty of Linguistics also offers many short-term courses on Vietnamese language and culture for foreigners (from 4 weeks to 1 year), or short-term courses in linguistics, applied linguistics, and Vietnamese linguistics for learners with specific needs (with durations from 4 weeks to 1 year).
In addition, the Department of Chinese Studies (Faculty of Oriental Studies) and the Center for Chinese Studies are key units of the University, bringing together many lecturers and researchers with in-depth knowledge and extensive experience in Chinese studies. Students majoring in Chinese studies form the core force supporting the University in receiving international students, assisting students from China with their studies and various aspects of their daily lives. Notably, the University organizes numerous cultural and artistic exchange programs with international students studying at the university.
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is also one of 17 training institutions authorized by the Ministry of Education and Training to organize Vietnamese language proficiency assessment exams and issue certificates to candidates who meet the requirements.
Currently, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has over 200 Chinese students enrolled in short-term programs, and dozens of students and trainees studying in the Departments of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language, Linguistics, International Studies, Political Science, Journalism and Communication. In 2023, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities also attracted many Chinese students and researchers to participate in master's and doctoral programs.

Chinese students majoring in Vietnamese expressed their admiration for the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and their desire to study there. Students from Guilin Academy also prepared various cultural performances in traditional Vietnamese ao dai costumes to welcome the professors from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
