Australian Volunteer Program: Bringing foreign experts to teach and research at VNU-USSH

On September 19, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH) had a working session with the delegation of the Australian Volunteers International (Australian Volunteers Programme) on the plan for future international expert exchange and publishing.

On the school side, there were Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, MSc. Luong Ngoc Vinh - Deputy Head of the Department of Cooperation and Development; Dr. Nguyen Vu Hoang - Deputy Head of the Faculty of Anthropology and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thu Huong - Lecturer of the Faculty of Anthropology.

On behalf of the Australian Volunteer Program delegation, there was Mr. David Sharman-Selvidge - Representative of the Australian Volunteer Program and Dr. Annie Hilsdon, a volunteer expert.
At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan emphasized: With the mission of being a pioneer in training high-quality, highly qualified human resources; long-standing tradition, leading position in research and training in social sciences and humanities in Vietnam, VNU-USSH always attaches importance to strengthening cooperation with international educational and research organizations and prestigious scientists in the world. Currently, with a total of nearly 600 staff and lecturers - the scientific human resources of the University have great potential in international research and training cooperation activities, with about 70% of lecturers holding a PhD degree and over 27% of lecturers holding the title of Professor, Associate Professor.

According to Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, with the goal of enhancing international integration, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has cooperated with many training and academic research institutions around the world. In particular, during the post-Covid-19 recovery period, the parties are strongly promoting cooperation, ensuring the effectiveness of cooperation and mutual benefits. In this spirit, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan believes that the cooperation between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Australian Volunteer Program will bring many opportunities in training and scientific research, student and lecturer exchange, international publication and conference organization.

Responding to the warm welcome from the school, Mr. David Sharman-Selvidge - Representative of the Australian Volunteer Program shared: The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is one of the leading partners thanks to its in-depth research with many new contents and topics. In addition to focusing on and promoting the elements of Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in research and teaching, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is also a pioneer in applying new teaching elements that are in line with progressive trends in the world. In the near future, Dr. Annie Hilsdon will work for about 1 year at the Faculty of Anthropology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, promising to bring to the school new ideas and many interesting new programs and topics for lecturers and students. A look at some of the outstanding programs and work contents that Dr. Annie Hilsdon supports the Faculty and the School in the programs
- Support staff and PhD students to publish internationally
- Support staff to improve academic English
- Support the development and innovation of programs and teaching methods
- Support the implementation of the project 'Promoting Gender Equality in Academic Leadership and Research' (funded by Australian Volunteers International)

Dr. Nguyen Vu Hoang - Deputy Head of the Faculty of Anthropology shared about the achievements and opportunities, the results of cooperation with the Faculty of Anthropology and emphasized on joint research and publication in the near future.
At the end of the working session, President Hoang Anh Tuan officially welcomed Dr. Annie Hilsdon to the VNU – USSH family, and wished the doctor a very effective working time and considered the USSH as her second home in the spirit of “A day of meaning”.
