Launching the book series "Time and Witnesses": A valuable collection of books depicting the historical and cultural flow of revolutionary Vietnamese journalism.

With three volumes and over forty articles, the book series portrays the portraits of veteran, unsung journalists who have contributed to shaping the face of revolutionary journalism in Vietnam.

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth and development of Vietnam's revolutionary press, and to honor the contributions of veteran journalists to the revolutionary press—a valuable journalistic legacy with profound theoretical and practical value—the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and the National Political Publishing House have compiled and republished the book "Time and Witnesses" (Memoirs of Journalists), edited by Professor Ha Minh Duc (editor-in-chief) and a team of authors over more than 10 years. The launch ceremony was held solemnly at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, this morning, September 29, 2023.

Professor Ha Minh Duc - Former first head of the Journalism Faculty - University of Hanoi, editor-in-chief of the book series "Time and Witnesses"

The book launch event for "Time and Witnesses" was chaired by Professor Ha Minh Duc, People's Teacher - former first head of the Journalism Faculty, University of Hanoi (now the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) and Professor Ta Ngoc Tan, Standing Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council. The event was honored to welcome Associate Professor Vu Trong Lam - Director and Editor-in-Chief of the National Political Publishing House; Journalist Ha Minh Hue - former Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association, along with leaders of functional agencies of the Vietnam Journalists Association; and Ms. Le Ai My Linh - Director of the Center for Journalism Culture, Vietnam Journalists Association.
Representing the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, were Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the university; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong - Vice Rector; Dr. Phan Van Kien - Director of the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Chi Trung - Vice Director, along with faculty members, students, and alumni of the Institute.
The meeting was attended by the editorial team, including experts, researchers, and lecturers from the Institute of Broadcasting and Communication, University of Social Sciences and Humanities; leaders of functional units of the National Political Publishing House and the Vietnam Journalists Association; and the presence and congratulations of the families of the late journalists Quang Đạm, Trần Công Mân, Hữu Thọ, Đỗ Phượng, Trần Kiên, and Trường Phước.
Among the prominent figures featured in the book "Time and Witnesses," the meeting was honored to welcome journalists who were also teachers, administrators, and cultural figures who made significant contributions to the formation and development of the Faculty of Journalism, now the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training - University of Social Sciences and Humanities. These included veteran journalist Thai Duy, former reporter for the Cuu Quoc newspaper from 1949, for the Giai Phong newspaper in 1964, and former reporter for the Dai Doan Ket newspaper; journalist Nguyen Hong Vinh, former member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, former Editor-in-Chief of the Nhan Dan newspaper, former President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, former Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Central Propaganda Department, and former Chairman of the Central Council for Literary and Artistic Theory and Criticism; journalist Tran Mai Hanh, former member of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party, former Director General of the Voice of Vietnam Radio; and journalist Duong Ky Anh, former Editor-in-Chief of the Tien Phong newspaper…

The dedication and intellectual contributions of many generations of great journalists and scientists.

In his opening remarks, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, shared the university's honor in welcoming generations of teachers, researchers, and alumni to the launch of this book series with profound scientific and historical value.

According to Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, the Journalism Faculty of the University of Hanoi, now the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training - University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, holds a very important position, being one of the official journalism training institutions in Vietnam. Throughout the more than 30 years of development of the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training, the contributions of generations of teachers and scientists have been of great significance. One of the first building blocks of the Institute was Professor Ha Minh Duc, a People's Teacher, who has contributed his intellect and efforts to the development of the institution over the years. Even at the age of 90, the professor continues to diligently deliver lectures to faculty and students of VNU-USSH. Rector Hoang Anh Tuan expressed his deep gratitude for the immense contributions of Professor Ha Minh Duc, as well as generations of teachers, scientists, and alumni of the university, to the cause of training and research in the field of social sciences and humanities, especially in the field of journalism.

In his speech at the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Trong Lam - Director and Editor-in-Chief of the National Political Publishing House - emphasized that the vivid and truthful memoirs of great journalists deserve to be considered soldiers on the front lines of the written press, recording the significant changes and transformations in the revolutionary process of the nation in the 20th century. Through the memoirs of journalists in the book series "Time and Witnesses," we can also see the multifaceted development of journalism, society, literature, and more.
Associate Professor Vu Trong Lam stated that, through their practical experience in journalism, the authors recounted and distilled many rich and diverse experiences in journalism, such as: the stance and perspective of a journalist, the necessary qualities of a journalist, love for the profession, and dedication... The memoirs of previous generations of journalists will be valuable lessons and experiences that help in understanding the past and especially in training the next generation of young journalists. Responding to the expectations of numerous readers, the book series "Time and Witnesses" has been reprinted and widely distributed nationwide. This is a practical activity aimed at commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth and development of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism, affirming the position and role of journalism as a sharp "weapon" of the Party and State, a reliable forum for the people, with positive contributions to the national construction in general and the protection of the Party's ideological foundation in particular.

Journalist Ho Quang Loi shared his appreciation for the hard work, dedication, and intellect of the authors of the book series "Time and Witnesses".
Sharing his appreciation for the authors of the book series, journalist Ho Quang Loi said:"The book series 'Time and Witnesses' is a valuable resource for writing about the journalistic profession, the historical flow of journalism, and especially, through more than 40 journalistic figures featured in the book, it highlights Vietnamese journalistic culture."Journalist Ho Quang Loi also expressed his belief that the book series will be preserved in prominent positions in many museums, media organizations, universities, etc.
Forty-three journalists are featured in the book "Time and Witnesses," the majority of whom worked during the period before the August Revolution of 1945, extending through the resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism. This was a difficult and arduous period, filled with sacrifices and losses for the entire nation, but also a glorious period, shining brightly with revolutionary heroism.

Volume I introduces the portraits of 13 journalists: Quang Đạm, Xích Điểu, Tô Hoài, Lê Kim, Trần Kư, Trần Lâm, Trần Công Mân, Vũ Tú Nam, Đỗ Phượng, Hữu Thọ, Xuân Thủy, Lê Bá Thuyên, and Hà Xuân Trường. They are long stories about individuals whose fates, lives, and loves are intertwined with the fate of the country and the nation, with the formation and development of revolutionary Vietnamese journalism.
