University of Social Sciences and Humanities: Leading 4 component tasks in the development of the National Geographic Encyclopedia of Vietnam

On November 5, 2019, the Contract Award Ceremony and the Implementation of the first component of the Research and Development of the National Geographic Encyclopedia of Vietnam (hereinafter referred to as the National Geographic Encyclopedia Project) took place at Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

The National Gazetteer project was approved by Decision No. 2079/QD-TTg dated December 22, 2017, of the Prime Minister, with the objective of "Building and providing basic, comprehensive knowledge about the natural conditions, people, culture, and society to contribute to the development of science, education, and raising the intellectual level of the people, serving the planning of socio-economic development policies and ensuring national defense and security through the formation of a database in the form of digital books and a printed set of the National Gazetteer of Vietnam."

The 27 basic contents of the National Geographic Atlas include: location, boundaries, territory - territorial waters; geography, geology and resources; flora and fauna, administration; anthropology, ethnic groups and population; political system; law; national defense; security; diplomacy; economy; history; culture, literature; art; language and writing; ideology; religion and beliefs; education; science and technology; medicine; transportation… and will be based on four standards: the set of standards on geographic content; the set of standards on databases; the geographic atlas; and the standards on local geographic information.

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is the lead agency for 4 of the 7 tasks signed in the first phase of the National Research Project.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) - Vice Head of the National Research Project, Nguyen Hoang Hai, praised the efforts of the scientists in implementing the National Research Project - an important national task. The Vice Director of VNU requested that the scientists pay attention to quality, progress, and coordination in carrying out the component tasks, contributing to the successful implementation of the National Research Project as a whole. He expressed confidence that the perseverance and dedication of the scientists would ensure the contract is implemented with quality and on schedule.

In the first phase of implementation, four scientists from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities led four component tasks, including:
1/ Research and development of the National Geographic Atlas of Vietnam: Communication Volume
Head of the Research Project: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong
2. Research and development of the National Geographic Atlas of Vietnam: Language and Writing Volume
Head of the Planning and Development Department: Prof. Dr. Vu Duc Nghieu
3. Research and development of the National Geographic Atlas of Vietnam: Administrative Volume
Head of the Research Project: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong
4. Research and compilation of the National Geographical Atlas of Vietnam: Literature Volume
Head of the Research Project: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Thach.

The Vice Rector of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, along with scientists from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, were assigned the task of leading the component projects to build the National Geographic Encyclopedia of Vietnam.

Deputy Director Nguyen Hoang Hai and the scientists were assigned the task of leading the component projects in the construction of the National Geographic Encyclopedia of Vietnam.
