The Faculty of History held a ceremony to celebrate Vietnamese Teachers' Day, award Le Van Huu Scholarship 2020 and the fourth Dinh Xuan Lam Award.

On November 18, 2018, the Faculty of History, University of Social Sciences and Humanities solemnly held the Ceremony to celebrate the Vietnamese Teachers' Day, award the Le Van Huu Scholarship 2020 and the 4th Dinh Xuan Lam History Award. This is one of the important annual celebrations of the Faculty.

The ceremony began with performances by teachers and students of the Faculty of History. Students of the Faculty of History expressed their deep feelings and gratitude through their songs and voices. In particular, in the 2020-2021 school year, the Faculty of History welcomed nearly 150 students of the 65th course majoring in History and Cultural Studies. At the ceremony, students of the 65th course of the Faculty showed their dynamism, confidence, and creativity with modern dances and traditional dances such as Going to School, singing Nguoi Thay, etc.

Overview of the Ceremony

At the ceremony, generations of teachers and students of the Faculty of History took a minute to remember the teachers who had passed away. In his opening speech, Head of the Faculty of History - Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Van Quan affirmed that students of class 65 can be confident and proud to have become students of the Faculty of History, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi. In the 2019-2020 school year, the Faculty of History has had many achievements and outstanding developments in all aspects of the Faculty's activities: stable undergraduate and postgraduate admissions, ensuring quality; the teaching staff increased in quantity and quality; scientific research had many achievements... The development of the Faculty of History is a source of continuity from the past to the present. The Faculty of History, with the contributions of many generations of teachers and students over the past 60 years, has been, is and will always be the leading history training and teaching unit in the country.

In 2006, the Le Van Huu Scholarship Fund was founded with the initiative of the late Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hai Ke. 2020 is the 15th time this scholarship has been awarded. 14 Le Van Huu scholarships have been awarded to courses K64, K63, K62, K61 of training systems with excellent academic achievements, students who are class cadres, Youth Union, Association with good academic achievements, students with difficult circumstances with good academic achievements, students of K65 who are valedictorians (majors in History and Cultural Studies). Compared to the previous year, the value of Le Van Huu scholarships has been increased to 2,000,000 VND/scholarship. All Le Van Huu scholarships are contributions from teachers and alumni of the Faculty of History to encourage and motivate students of the Faculty of History to strive to study, do scientific research and participate in collective activities. Le Van Huu Scholarship is a great source of encouragement not only materially but also spiritually for students in the Faculty.

Prof. Dr. Vu Duong Ninh - President of the Association of Former Teachers of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, former Vice Head of the Faculty of History, former Head of the Department of Global History and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Van Quan - Head of the Faculty of History awarded 14 Le Van Huu scholarships to students.

After the passing of Professor, Distinguished Teacher, Scientist Dinh Xuan Lam in 2017 - to commemorate and honor him, and at the same time to create conditions for generations of students, trainees, and researchers to continue studying, continue his career, and multiply his historical achievements, many colleagues, generations of students, and his family discussed and agreed on a plan to establish a Historical Foundation named after Dinh Xuan Lam.

Students, graduate students and researchers receiving the Dinh Xuan Lam award took a photo with Professor Nguyen Van Khanh - Head of the Fund's Executive Board, Professor Nguyen Van Kim, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Van Quan, Dr. Truong Bich Hanh and representatives of Professor Dinh Xuan Lam's family.

The 4th Dinh Xuan Lam Award decided to award 12 prizes, each worth 5,000,000 VND to 12 full-time university students majoring in History with Excellent/Good academic results and scientific research achievements. The 12 students receiving the 4th Dinh Xuan Lam Award came from the History Department of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi University of Education, Thai Nguyen University, Hong Duc University, and the Institute of Social Education, Vinh University.

Awarding 3 prizes, each worth 10,000,000 VND to 3 graduate students majoring in History with excellent thesis defense results and many published research works. In 2020, these 3 prizes were awarded to 3 students from Hue University (University of Sciences and Hue University of Education), namely Mai Van Duoc, Vo Thi Hien, and Truong Thi Xuan.

Awarding 3 prizes, each worth 20,000,000 VND to 3 PhD students majoring in Vietnamese History and Global History at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi, Hue University of Sciences, who have excellent thesis defense results and have many published research works: Pham Ngoc Bao Liem, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Thao, Phan Hai Van. In the 4th awarding round, unfortunately the prize worth 25,000,000 VND for an excellent monograph on Vietnamese history published by a reputable publisher has not been awarded.

The students, graduate students and young researchers who received the Dinh Xuan Lam Award all felt honored and proud and affirmed that they will make every effort on the path of researching and teaching history in the future to be able to continue and further multiply the historical achievements that Professor Dinh Xuan Lam left for posterity.

Dr. Pham Ngoc Bao Liem, PhD student at Hue University of Sciences, Hue University, received the Dinh Xuan Lam award with the topic "Private higher education in South Vietnam from 1957 to 1975"expressed great honor to be selected by the scientific council to receive the award named after the excellent historian, exemplary pedagogue, Professor, People's Teacher Dinh Xuan Lam. Receiving the Dinh Xuan Lam award, Dr. Pham Ngoc Bao Liem and other individuals will strive, seriously, constantly try, improve in scientific research, teaching, continue the mission of conveying the values ​​of historical research and study to future generations as desired by Professor, People's Teacher Dinh Xuan Lam.
