[Book] Anthropology - The Science of Cultural Differences

Friday - September 22, 2017 01:32
Anthropology is a field of study with a long history worldwide, and is now a widely known and applied science in developed Western countries. However, in Vietnam, anthropology remains a relatively "young" science and is still quite unfamiliar to the general public. Although anthropology has been taught at the university level in Vietnam for over ten years, building upon and developing ethnology, questions such as "What is anthropology?", "What does anthropology study?", and "What do anthropologists do?" remain major and persistent concerns for students, parents, employers, and society in general.

Contributing to answering these questions, the book "Anthropology – The Science of Cultural Differences" by author Lam Minh Chau will provide readers with answers to frequently asked questions about anthropology such as "What is anthropology?", "Where can anthropological knowledge be applied?", "What jobs can an anthropology student do after graduation and why are they able to do those jobs?"

Using a simple and easy-to-understand style, the author not only clarifies these issues but also provides a fresh perspective on anthropology. Accordingly, while the majority of social sciences and humanities aim to understand the similarities and commonalities between human cultures worldwide, anthropology begins with exploring the differences between these cultures. In other words, anthropology is one of the rare sciences whose primary concern is explaining the cultural differences between people in different parts of the world.
