Not coming from a "traditional" school to get into university, Bui Ha Anh - a former student of a continuing education school - quietly wrote an inspiring story of breakthrough. Refusing to let circumstances limit her, this young woman, who used to study late into the night, overcame skeptical glances to reach her dream of attending the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, becoming valedictorian and receiving a prestigious scholarship.
Ha Anh, a former student at the Vocational Education and Continuing Education Center in Chuong My district, a place rarely mentioned in stories of students getting into prestigious universities, quietly wrote her own breakthrough journey. With 28.5 points, she not only got accepted into the University of Social Sciences and Humanities but also became the valedictorian of the K69 cohort.Cultural Studies, Department of History, and also won the prestigious Le Van Huu scholarship.
For Ha Anh, getting into university was the key to changing her life.
Extraordinary effort leads to outstanding achievement.
Looking back on her journey from her school days to entering a prestigious university, Ha Anh realizes that academic effort alone is not enough. It's also about learning to believe in herself, standing up against skeptical glances, and steadfastly pursuing her chosen path. For her, each page of a book is not just a set of words, but also a stepping stone to the future, where Ha Anh can prove that starting point doesn't determine destination.
Her love for social sciences, especially History, was the initial motivation that drove Ha Anh to strive. But more than anything, it was her desire to change herself and move towards a better future. “I only studied for about two months, staying up all night. There were times when I felt discouraged, but I thought about my dream university, the Faculty of Humanities, and about my parents, teachers, and friends, and that prevented me from giving up.”
Ha Anh has achieved her dream of becoming a student at a prestigious university in Hanoi.
Ha Anh shared that she has the highest exam score in the history of the Vocational Education and Continuing Education Center of Chuong My district to date. That is what makes her most proud. This achievement not only helped Ha Anh get into her dream university, but also became an example for future students to remember and emulate.
Despite feeling insecure at times while studying in a socially prejudiced environment like continuing education, Ha Anh never allowed herself to give up. She recognized the significant differences between this environment and regular high school, especially in the quality of her classmates. “My class had both diligent students and rebellious ones, which had a considerable impact. But thanks to the enthusiastic and supportive teachers, I always strived to overcome the challenges.”
The day Ha Anh got the news that she had passed the university entrance exam with high scores, her whole family burst into joy. “My parents were so proud, they told everyone. Everyone said: studying GDTX still got me into a prestigious university. Hearing that, I was so happy.”
Ms. Dang Thi Nhu Quynh, Ha Anh's teacher, shared: "She is not only a small flame that warms the spirits of the whole class, but also a nucleus that spreads positive energy to her friends and teachers. She always makes me believe that every student can rewrite their own story."
Ha Anh is extremely grateful to her parents and teachers, who have wholeheartedly supported her in her studies.
A journey of continuous progress
When asked about her exam preparation secrets, Ha Anh readily shared: reading books, listening to video lectures on online platforms, practicing with sample questions regularly, and taking online courses were the formulas that helped her master the knowledge. “For Literature, I read a lot, listened a lot, and wrote a lot. For History, my favorite subject, I spent most of my time reviewing the main points, practicing with sample questions and reviewing as I went along. Finally, for Geography, I tried to learn the formulas thoroughly and apply them regularly.” Thanks to this effective study method, Ha Anh achieved a score of 9.75 in History and Geography, and a 9 in Literature.
Ha Anh excelled, becoming the valedictorian and receiving a scholarship at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Now a freshman in a vibrant academic environment, Ha Anh admits she was initially overwhelmed by the talented and high-achieving students around her. But by proactively integrating and participating in many activities, she gradually adapted and came to love the new environment. Currently, Ha Anh is an active member of the Humanities Event Communication Club - MCUE, the Garnet Reception and Events Club, and actively participates in various extracurricular activities of the Faculty.
When asked about her motivation to continue striving in university, Ha Anh answered concisely but resolutely: "Because everyone around me is so talented, I think I can't just stand still. I think about the future, about a stable job, about my parents' expectations. And I know I can't miss this opportunity."
The university environment gave Ha Anh the opportunity to develop herself into an active and dynamic person.
Heartfelt appreciation, gratitude - and a desire to share.
Ha Anh cherishes two things most about her journey: the affection and dedication of the teachers at the Continuing Education Center, who, despite the difficulties, always stood by her side during her exam preparation; and the fact that she has become an inspiring role model for younger students, who also once doubted themselves.
Sending best wishes to students taking the 2025 high school graduation exam, Ha Anh shared: “No matter where you study, whether in continuing education or regular high school, no matter your starting point, you can still achieve what you want if you truly try. Think further ahead, about your family, about your future, and keep your spirits up. I wish you all the best results, worthy of all the effort you have put in.”
