Female student Bach Thi Lam (residing in hamlet 13, Hoa Hai commune, Huong Khe district, Ha Tinh) lost her father when she was in 4th grade. Her mother became blind in one eye while working for hire. Her family's circumstances were very difficult, causing her to weigh only 34 kg even though she was 18 years old. However, the female student was an excellent student for 12 consecutive years and won third prize in the History subject competition of Ha Tinh province.
In addition to exempting tuition fees, VNU leaders decided to grant Lam a scholarship and support dormitory accommodation if she is admitted and decides to study at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU) said that, following the very humane policy of the Director of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, in the case of candidate Lam, the school is willing to welcome and support her to the fullest extent if she truly wishes to study at the school.
“The school will also work with the dormitory management board of VNU to support candidates to stay in the dormitory for free if they wish. If you study at the school, we will give priority to the school’s support resources, scholarships for poor students who overcome difficulties, and also mobilize support resources from society,” said Mr. Tuan.
According to Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, the support directions are offered with the hope of sharing difficulties in learning conditions, helping Lam to feel secure in registering for university admission, without too much pressure from family circumstances.
This afternoon (August 6), Principal Hoang Anh Tuan, on behalf of the school, contacted Bach Thi Lam to encourage her to confidently pursue her dream of going to university.

The house where Lam, her mother and younger brother lived before the government supported them with 70 million VND to rebuild it last year.
Bach Thi Lam (born 2003, resident of Hamlet 13, Hoa Hai Commune, Huong Khe District, Ha Tinh), a 12B1 student at Ham Nghi High School, scored 28.5 points in block C (Literature 9.25 points; History 9.5 points; Geography 9.75 points). Together with 0.75 regional priority points, Lam's total admission score was 29.25 points.
With this score, Lam is the runner-up in block C of Ha Tinh province and is also in the group of 100 candidates with the highest exam scores nationwide in block C (including 68 candidates with the same score of 28.5).
Lam's wish is to study Economic Law at Hanoi Law University. Her second wish is to enter the Faculty of Journalism at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi).
In the 4th grade, Lam's father suddenly passed away from a brain tumor, leaving behind a heavy burden and sadness for her mother and her three children. Although she was in the 12th grade, Lam only weighed 34kg, her voice was hoarse and difficult to speak, but she did not have the means to go to the doctor.
Ms. Thu - Lam's mother was born in 1982. Seven years ago, while peeling acacia bark, Ms. Thu was poked in the eye by a thorn from a tree in the cajuput garden. Since then, Ms. Thu's right eye has been completely blind, unable to see light. Her health has also gradually weakened, often having seizures.
Mr. Bach Dinh Han, Party Secretary of Village 13, said: “Previously, the three of us lived in a dilapidated house. When the flood came, it was swept away. The whole neighborhood had to rescue the house and tie it back together with ropes to help the family. Last year, the government supported us with 70 million VND. Thu borrowed another 50 million VND from the bank to build a house. Now she has not been able to pay the debt, and her health is weak, often having seizures. But her two children are good students. I hope that benefactors will help Lam go to university.”
