What will you learn?
At the Faculty of Anthropology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, students and faculty explore human issues occurring in real life. Teachers and students work collaboratively, drawing on a range of archival data—ethnology, history, archaeology, linguistics, etc.—to pursue broader interdisciplinary questions. The research interests of faculty and students span the most important areas for contemporary anthropology, as reflected in courses across disciplines such as the history of anthropological theory, digital and visual anthropology, religious anthropology, medical anthropology, gender anthropology, economic anthropology, urban anthropology, and ethnic minorities in Vietnam.

During their studies at the Department of Anthropology, students regularly interact with international professors and doctors from prestigious universities around the world who come to the department to teach and present the latest research in the field of anthropology. Students benefit from opportunities related to their specialization as well as improve their foreign language skills through academic and communicative activities.

Practical training is a crucial activity for Anthropology students. Students must engage with communities to learn about their cultural lives, gain cultural experiences, and develop research skills. The purpose of practical training is to: (i) enable students to apply their ethnographic fieldwork knowledge to fieldwork and utilize qualitative and quantitative research methods in collecting and processing information on the research subject (specific communities) in the field; (ii) thereby gain a better understanding of the theoretical knowledge they have learned, and simultaneously recognize the difficulties and challenges in researching specific topics in the research area; (iii) consequently, require students to be aware of the need to flexibly and creatively master the fundamental issues of the research problem from both theoretical and methodological perspectives.

During their university studies, Anthropology students also have the opportunity to study, research, and exchange ideas at major universities in Europe and China. This is a chance for students to experience an international learning environment and further develop their knowledge, which will be valuable for their future lives.
