To achieve this admirable feat, this young man born in the 1990s always adhered to the motto "dare to think, dare to do".
History is not a dry subject at all.
After graduating with a double degree, Quy Lam (born in 1999, from Hung Yen province) chose a career related to History, as this is his greatest passion.
Responding to the opinion that "research is a dry, boring field with low income and difficulty in getting rich," Lam confided: "Research is not a suitable choice for those who want to earn a high income and get rich. But generally, research, especially in the Social Sciences and Humanities like my field, is very interesting. The field of study helps me gain more diverse and profound perspectives on various issues. In particular, History is not as dry and boring as people think."

Student: Vu Quy Lam
I came to the field of History for many reasons, but I think most of all, it was a matter of "destiny." My parents wanted me to study medicine because my mother works in that field. Furthermore, no one in my family has pursued research. People thought it was difficult to find a job in History. However, I've been independent since I was young, always taking initiative in everything I do, and I'm determined to achieve what I like. Since middle school, I've been interested in social sciences and dreamed of studying at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Luckily, that dream has now come true.
I really enjoy learning about history. Studying the past has provided me with a lot of useful information, knowledge, lessons, and experiences that I can apply appropriately to the present and the future. After four years of university, the most profound lesson I've learned is the importance of determination. All difficulties and challenges can be overcome if we truly strive and try our best."
According to Quy Lam, to become proficient in the field of historical research, one first needs good thinking skills, perseverance, meticulousness, and creativity. Among these, Lam believes that good thinking skills are the most important, because historical research requires logic and the ability to connect issues, events, and information.
After completing his dual degree program and graduating with honors, Quy Lam plans to pursue a career related to History.
According to the student from Hung Yen, the comment "If you don't work in your field after graduating from university, it's like wasting four years" is right or wrong depending on each person's perspective. However, Lam himself believes that the four years of university brought more gains than losses. Because throughout his time as a student, Lam studied and trained in a dynamic environment.
"Studying at university not only equips you with and hones your specialized knowledge, but if you know how to take advantage of and seize opportunities, you can also develop many other essential skills that are relevant to the job market, such as communication skills, interpersonal skills, presentation skills, and life skills..."

Quy Lam had many valuable experiences during his student years.
In today's developed society, besides professional knowledge, soft skills are extremely important factors that determine success in the workplace. Therefore, it would be a shame if, while still a student, you focused solely on studying throughout your years of schooling without participating in extracurricular activities, clubs, and dedicating time to learning additional soft skills.
Furthermore, many graduates end up working in fields unrelated to their studies; not everyone can find a job in their area of expertise. Sometimes, it's not about choosing a profession, but rather the profession choosing you. Ultimately, our goal is to earn money and fulfill our passions.
"I really appreciate the saying 'attitude over skill'; in any endeavor, to be sustainable and successful, you must first have a truly serious attitude towards your work, be passionate, enthusiastic, and responsible in your chosen profession. Although I didn't choose a career related to law, I've never regretted studying and graduating in this field," Lam shared.
Time pressure is inevitable when pursuing a double degree.
There was a time when Quy Lam also faced many difficulties in arranging and balancing her study time and participation in extracurricular activities. "There were times when I was very busy, studying for a double degree, participating in student union activities, and wanting to work part-time. Studying for a double degree inevitably involves time pressure. But I focused on solving everything systematically and regained balance in my life."
As a result, I have now completed both programs and achieved excellent academic results. So, don't worry about being disillusioned with studying for a double degree, because all difficulties can be overcome with determination, effort, and a well-organized approach.
"Personally, I believe that students can balance studying with participating in group activities to gain experience and challenge themselves. New students should focus on their studies rather than partying, and participate in group activities to socialize, learn from others, but without neglecting their studies. If you want to find a good job that suits you, try to focus on your specialization and develop necessary soft skills," Lam added.
Lam believes that everyone has made mistakes in the past and has wished they could turn back time to correct them and do things better. But now, Lam thinks differently. Because whatever has happened, good or bad, has a reason and contributes to a person's growth. He cherishes the experiences and mistakes of yesterday that have "forged" the strong and resilient Quy Lam he is today.
The image that Quy Lam aspires to in his studies and work is that of a versatile, responsible, enthusiastic person with a professional work attitude. Whenever he faces pressure, Lam usually reflects on his past journey, identifies shortcomings, then takes time to calm down, talk with friends, before returning to solve the problem.
"I want to send a message to all the students out there: while you're in the prime of your lives, live life to the fullest, pursue your passions, do what you love, and continuously learn and improve so you won't have any regrets later."
