On January 6, 2010, the Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities issued Decision No. 08 QD/XHNV-DT promulgating the learning outcomes standards for undergraduate programs at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The following are the contents of the appendix attached to the decision.
As a leading, prestigious, and long-standing university, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, has the mission of being at the forefront of creating and disseminating knowledge and training high-quality human resources in social sciences and humanities to serve the cause of national construction and development.
The goal is to develop the university into a leading institution in the country for social sciences and humanities, on par with prestigious universities in the region, and to effectively serve the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country.
Focus on building and developing several disciplines and specializations to international standards based on the internationalization of training programs, promoting academic activities, and expanding cooperative relationships with top-tier universities in the region and around the world. 1.3 Training Objectives of the School
They possess a firm ideological and political stance, good moral character, a correct professional ethics, and honesty in science; they have a correct understanding of social values and behave in a manner consistent with those values; and they clearly demonstrate professional responsibility and a sense of community.
Possessing sufficiently deep and broad professional knowledge to perform well in their specialized field, and the ability to apply that knowledge to practical work.
Possessing the ability to learn independently and engage in lifelong learning to enhance personal capabilities and achieve professional success; having the skills to independently search for information and knowledge related to their professional work; being able to self-assess and evaluate their existing knowledge; understanding and accepting their own strengths and weaknesses, grasping learning methods and strategies suitable for themselves; being proactive and flexible in adapting to changes in the work environment and life.
Graduates should possess the ability to work both independently and as part of a team; and demonstrate proactive, creative, and effective problem-solving skills. For graduates of high-quality, internationally accredited programs, in addition to meeting the above-mentioned knowledge, skills, and attitude goals, they must also meet the following requirements: strong professional knowledge; creative ability; proficiency in foreign languages for professional and general social communication with international colleagues; proficiency in using computer tools and online resources for professional work; and the ability to integrate with advanced university training models in the region and internationally.
1. Linguistics
1.1. General Objectives

Regarding knowledgeGraduates with a Bachelor's degree in Linguistics possess general knowledge of social sciences and humanities, as well as fundamental, systematic, and initially in-depth knowledge of linguistics, Vietnamese linguistics, the languages and cultures of ethnic minorities in Vietnam, basic knowledge of language and culture, and professional knowledge related to journalism, media, publishing, and education activities in Vietnam and internationally.1.1.2. The program also ensures that after graduation students can continue their studies at higher levels in Linguistics or other Social Sciences and Humanities fields domestically or abroad.1.2. Specific ObjectivesThe undergraduate Linguistics program, which meets international standards, comprises five specializations, each with specific objectives as follows:1.2.1. Linguistics Major (A)The aim is to train Bachelor of Linguistics graduates with specialized knowledge and skills in linguistics (theoretical linguistics, descriptive linguistics, comparative linguistics) and the ability to apply them in practical research, teaching, or activities related to linguistics in general, and language and culture in particular, at domestic and international organizations.1.2.2. Applied Linguistics (B) SpecializationThe aim is to train Bachelor of Linguistics graduates with specialized knowledge and skills in applied linguistics (language education, journalistic linguistics, media, editing and publishing, translation, computer science, etc.) and the ability to apply them in practical research, teaching, or activities related to applied linguistics in domestic and international organizations.1.2.3 Specialization in Vietnamese Linguistics (C)The aim is to train Bachelor of Linguistics graduates with specialized knowledge and skills in Vietnamese linguistics, the Vietnamese language, and Vietnamese culture, capable of applying them to practical research and teaching or activities related to linguistics in general, and Vietnamese linguistics, the Vietnamese language, and Vietnamese culture in particular, at domestic and international organizations.1.2.4. Specialization in Languages and Cultures of Ethnic Minorities (D)The aim is to train Bachelor of Linguistics graduates with specialized knowledge and skills in the languages and cultures of ethnic minorities in Vietnam, capable of using at least one ethnic minority language to conduct research, teach, or undertake work related to linguistics, especially the languages and cultures of ethnic minorities, in ethnic minority regions or in domestic and international organizations.1.2.5. Specialization in Vietnamese Linguistics for Foreigners (E)The aim is to train foreign linguistics graduates who possess a high level of Vietnamese language proficiency and competence, a basic understanding of Vietnamese society, country, and people, qualities and skills suitable for a multicultural work environment, and professional capabilities to undertake tasks such as translation, interpretation, teaching, and research on Vietnamese language and culture, as well as many other jobs in cultural, educational, administrative, and diplomatic agencies in various countries.
2. Journalism and Communication
2.1. Regarding knowledgeGraduates with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism possess both a broad understanding of social life and a solid foundation of specialized knowledge in print journalism, radio, television, online journalism, advertising, and public relations. They grasp the development trends of various forms of journalism both domestically and internationally, and are capable of analyzing, discussing, and commenting on in-depth journalistic issues.2.2. Regarding skillsGraduates with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism possess practical skills across all areas of journalism, including print, radio, television, and online journalism. These skills enable graduates to quickly integrate and thrive in new work environments. Students are also equipped with teamwork skills and decision-making skills in real-world journalistic situations.2.3. Regarding attitudeGraduates in Journalism possess a strong political awareness and class standpoint; a deep sense of national identity and patriotism; the professional capacity to integrate equally into professional activities in the region and the world; impeccable ethics, a healthy lifestyle, and a courageous attitude in the struggle to protect the policies and guidelines of the Communist Party and the State of Vietnam, against conspiracies and actions aimed at undermining the regime, and to encourage and guide the masses in building and defending the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; they have a high sense of organizational discipline and responsibility, a passion for their profession, and a scientific, serious, and open-minded work style based on a full and conscious understanding of the social role and position of journalism and mass media.2.4. Job positions and career opportunities after graduationGraduates with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism are capable of performing the duties of reporters and editors at newspapers, magazines, news agencies, radio stations, and television stations; working as research and teaching staff at training and scientific research institutions in journalism and mass media; working as functional staff in agencies leading and managing press information; or performing duties requiring a systematic and fundamental understanding of journalistic theory and professional skills. Journalism graduates also have a wide range of adaptability to perform duties in agencies and units related to journalism and mass media, such as cultural and ideological agencies, social mobilization and communication agencies, and general information departments of political and social organizations.
3. Political Science
The undergraduate Political Science program aims to train human resources with fundamental and systematic knowledge of political science, research and practical skills in political science, the capacity to work in fields requiring political science expertise, and a positive attitude towards firmly protecting national independence and sovereignty, and building a prosperous, strong, just, democratic, and civilized Vietnam.3.1. Regarding knowledgeGraduates with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science possess a systematic understanding of the theory, methods, and methodologies of political science; and of fundamental issues in the political life of Vietnam, the region, and the world.3.2. Regarding skillsGraduates with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science possess the skills to approach, research, and present on politics; they also have the practical skills to apply their political science knowledge when participating in activities in various fields of political life.3.3. Regarding attitudeGraduates with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science demonstrate a positive attitude towards achieving the goal of firmly safeguarding national independence and sovereignty, and building a prosperous, strong, just, democratic, and civilized Vietnam.3.4. Job positions and career opportunities after graduationGraduates possess the capacity for theoretical political thinking; they are able to apply their acquired knowledge to initially understand and solve problems arising in the practical realities of political and social life; and they are capable of working effectively in political and social activities. Graduates of the Political Science program are capable of: - Working as advisors in agencies that formulate the Party and State's guidelines and policies; - Working as advisors in agencies and organizations within the political system and socio-economic organizations; - Conducting research in political theory agencies; - Conducting research and teaching political science in Party schools, universities, colleges, and vocational high schools; - Working as reporters and commentators on current affairs and politics at central and local newspapers and broadcasting stations.
4. Social Work
4.1. Regarding knowledgeThe program equips learners with a fundamental, foundational, and specialized knowledge system in Social Work; helping them develop scientific thinking methods and the ability to apply learned knowledge to understand and solve practical social problems.4.2. Regarding skillsThe program trains students in practical social work skills for individuals, groups, and communities across various fields of social work.4.3. Regarding attitudeGraduates with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work possess a strong political and ethical stance, a commitment to serving the people, a love for their profession, a solid understanding of specialized knowledge and practical skills in social work, and the ability to identify, participate in solving social problems, and enhance human capacity.4.4. Job positions and career opportunities after graduation:After graduation, Social Work graduates can: + Provide social work services at social institutions and organizations (public and private institutions, agencies, and organizations). Work professionally in various fields such as: health, education, law, economics, media, society, culture, environment... Work directly at research and training institutions related to social work. + Continue postgraduate studies (master's, doctoral) in Social Work, Community Development; they can also pursue further studies to switch to other specialized fields closely related to Social Work.
5. Tourism Studies
5.1. Regarding knowledgeGraduates in Tourism Studies possess a comprehensive knowledge base in tourism science, encompassing fundamental knowledge in tourism geography, tourism culture, tourism economics, hotel and travel management, and tour guiding. The program incorporates up-to-date scientific information across various fields of tourism studies, enabling students to apply this knowledge in research, organization, management, operation, and business activities within the tourism sector. The program also aims to progressively improve its curriculum to meet regional and international standards for human resource development.5.2. Regarding skillsGraduates with a Bachelor's degree in Tourism possess fundamental skills and expertise such as hotel management, travel agency services, cultural tourism, ecotourism, and other tourism-related skills and expertise.5.3. Regarding attitudeGraduates with a Bachelor's degree in Tourism Studies possess a love for the country's nature and cultural heritage, a sense of responsibility for preserving, protecting, and promoting human and ecological resources in tourism activities; they are honest, confident, dedicated to service, eager to learn, and ambitious.5.4. Job positions and career opportunities after graduationGraduates with a Bachelor's degree in Tourism Studies are capable of working independently in key areas such as tourism research; organizing, managing, and operating tourism businesses; and working in state tourism management agencies.
6. Oriental Studies
The Bachelor of Oriental Studies program, as a regional studies program, offers specializations in: Chinese Studies, Japanese Studies, Korean Studies (North Korea and South Korea), Indian Studies, and Southeast Asian-Australian Studies. Graduates of the Bachelor of Oriental Studies program must meet the following specific requirements:6.1. Regarding knowledgeStudents possess a relatively broad and systematic foundation of knowledge in social sciences and humanities, Oriental studies, and their specialized field, ensuring both systematic and historical understanding, while also grasping the current situation of the country or region related to their field and its relationship with Vietnam.6.2. Regarding skillsStudents are relatively proficient in a specialized foreign language with all four skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing; they also understand regional studies research methods and international communication techniques.6.3. Regarding attitudeThey possess good political and moral qualities, a strong sense of service to the people, and successfully fulfill their assigned duties.6.4. Job positions and career opportunities after graduationGraduates in Oriental Studies can work in fields related to relations between Vietnam and Eastern countries; conduct research and teach in universities and colleges, scientific institutes and centers; work in diplomatic agencies, international relations, and representative offices; work in state-owned and private enterprises, and in domestic and foreign government and non-governmental organizations.
7. Han Nom Studies
7.1. Regarding knowledgeBased on providing students with foundational knowledge (philosophy, history, literature, etc.), the program equips them with basic and in-depth knowledge of Sino-Vietnamese studies such as: basic Chinese literature; Nôm characters and Nôm texts; selected Chinese texts by school and period; Vietnamese Chinese literature; Sino-Vietnamese writing; classical Chinese grammar; Sino-Vietnamese textual studies; Sino-Vietnamese literary studies; knowledge of Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism, etc., as well as knowledge of traditional culture in both theoretical and practical aspects of texts.7.2. Regarding skillsUpon graduating from this program, students will possess the necessary skills in accessing and processing Sino-Vietnamese texts, both in terms of textual studies (text processing and analysis) and in interpreting and exploiting texts (reading, transcribing, translating, annotating, and introducing texts). They will also know how to use research tools (dictionaries, etc.), and how to describe, preserve, and reproduce various types of rubbings.7.3. Regarding attitudeThrough a system of subjects, the training program aims to cultivate patriotic and professional individuals working in the field of Sino-Vietnamese studies who are knowledgeable in preserving and promoting the values of traditional culture, and capable of utilizing the values of Sino-Vietnamese heritage to serve the construction of an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity in the context of international integration and exchange.7.4. Job positions and career opportunities after graduationThe undergraduate program in Sino-Vietnamese studies aims to train graduates with strong political qualities and professional competence in Sino-Vietnamese studies, capable of undertaking tasks such as collecting, preserving, translating, researching, exploiting, and teaching Sino-Vietnamese studies.
8. Management Science
The undergraduate program in Management Science aims to train management personnel with strong political convictions, good moral character, and high professional qualifications, meeting the requirements of the country's industrialization, modernization, and international integration.8.1. Regarding knowledgeGraduates with a Bachelor of Science in Management are systematically provided with knowledge of management theory and methods, leadership, management science, and other interdisciplinary sciences.8.2. 9. History Department

10. Archival Studies and Office Management

Regarding knowledgeGraduates with a Bachelor's degree in Archival Studies and Office Management possess fundamental and systematic knowledge of state administrative documents, document management, public administration, archival studies, and office management theory.10.2. Regarding skillsGraduates with a Bachelor's degree in Archival Studies and Office Administration possess fundamental skills in areas such as document management, archival work, and office administration, including document drafting, file creation and management, office organization, and the systematic and technical organization of archival documents.10.3. Regarding attitudeGraduates with a Bachelor's degree in Archival Studies and Office Administration possess the exceptional qualities and attributes of a document and archive officer, as well as an office worker; they also have the right understanding and attitude towards the work they will undertake after graduation.10.4. Job positions and career opportunities after graduationGraduates with a Bachelor's degree in Archival Studies and Office Management can hold positions such as general secretary, document specialist, archivist, and other roles in the offices of ministries, departments, people's committees at all levels, or in the offices of agencies, organizations, associations, businesses, and state archives centers. After completing their undergraduate program, graduates in Archival Studies and Office Management can continue their studies and research at the postgraduate and doctoral levels to become experts in Archival Studies and Office Management.
11. Anthropology
11.1. Regarding knowledgeThe undergraduate program in Anthropology provides students with fundamental knowledge of Anthropology, in-depth knowledge of socio-cultural Anthropology in all aspects: concepts, theories, other basic knowledge related to the fundamental topics of the field, and the ability to practice Anthropological research methods.11.2. Regarding skillsGraduates with a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology possess a thorough understanding of theoretical frameworks and are proficient in anthropological research methods; they are initially capable of applying logical, proactive, and creative thinking to solve academic problems related to anthropology within their field of specialization.11.3. Regarding attitudeThey possess political and moral qualities, a sense of service to the Party, the State, and the people; and maintain an honest attitude in scientific pursuits.11.4. Job positions and career opportunities after graduationGraduates with a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology possess fundamental and in-depth knowledge of a specific field; they are capable of enhancing their professional skills to achieve success in their professional work. The Bachelor of Psychology program, with specializations in Management and Business Psychology; Social Psychology; Clinical Psychology; and Counseling Psychology, aims to achieve the following objectives:13.1. Graduates with a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy possess fundamental, foundational, and in-depth knowledge of philosophy, a firm stance, viewpoint, and scientific thinking methods based on Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought, enabling them to understand and solve real-world social problems; at the same time, they are capable of integrating with world philosophical science.15.1. Regarding knowledgeA Bachelor of Philosophy degree provides a systematic and scientific understanding of the general theory, specialized fields, and professional practices of philosophy, as well as several interdisciplinary sciences.15.2. Regarding skillsGraduates with a Bachelor of Philosophy degree possess the skills to research and teach philosophical subjects; they also have the skills to handle public administration tasks in socio-political organizations.15.3. Regarding attitudeGraduates in philosophy are individuals with good political and moral qualities, firm ideological stances, loyalty to the Fatherland and the interests of the people and nation, and a willingness and enthusiasm to work, be creative, and overcome difficulties to complete their tasks.15.4. Regarding possible job positions after graduationGraduates with a Bachelor of Philosophy degree can work in teaching and research in philosophical sciences and Marxist-Leninist theory, Ho Chi Minh Thought; they can also participate in other areas of social practice. Graduates with a Bachelor of Philosophy degree can continue their studies at the postgraduate level (Master's and Doctoral degrees) to become highly qualified experts in the fields of: Dialectical Materialism and Historical Materialism, History of Philosophy, Logic, Scientific Socialism, Aesthetics, Ethics, and Religious Studies; they can also continue their research.
