I. Eligibility for participation

Citizens of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam who meet the conditions stipulated in the Regulations on Postgraduate Training at Hanoi National University, issued under Decision No. 3810/KHCN dated October 10, 2007, by the Director of Hanoi National University.

II. Eligibility Requirements

1. Applying for PhD program
  • Applicants must possess a master's degree in a field that is relevant, appropriate, or closely related to the field for which they are applying.
  • Candidates must possess a master's degree in another field and a bachelor's degree in a field directly related to or relevant to the chosen specialization. In this case, candidates must have at least one such degree.One article published in a scientific journal or conference proceedings before submitting the application.and must take the exam under the regulations for those without a master's degree.
  • Having a full-time university degree in the relevant field,excellent or betterand there is at leastOne article published in a scientific journal or conference proceedings before submitting the application..
  • Must have a full-time university degree in the relevant field, with a good grade, and at least...Two articles published in scientific journals or conference proceedings before submitting the application..
The content of the articles must be relevant to the research direction registered for the competition.* Candidates for the doctoral program must have at least two years of professional work experience in the field of their chosen major (calculated from the date of graduation to the date of enrollment), except in the case of transfer students.

2. Graduate entrance exam

  • Applicants must possess a university degree in a field directly related to or relevant to the major they are applying for.

  • Individuals with a university degree classified as "good" or higher are eligible to take the exam immediately after graduating from a university with a degree in a field directly related to or relevant to the chosen specialization.
  • In all other cases, applicants must have at least two years of work experience in a professional field relevant to the major they are applying for (calculated from the date of the university graduation certificate to the date of enrollment).
* For candidates applying for the Science and Technology Management major:Applicants must possess a full-time, full-time, or part-time university degree, along with a certificate of supplementary knowledge in the field of study; be a leader or specialist in science and technology management units of state administrative agencies, public service organizations, political organizations, or socio-political organizations; and have at least two years of work experience in a field related to the examination subject (including those with a university degree with a GPA of "good" or higher).* For candidates applying for the tourism major
  • I have a university degree in tourism.
  • Holds a full-time degree in tourism economics, tourism geography, or tourism culture;have taken supplementary courses to improve their knowledge.To achieve a level equivalent to a university degree in tourism.
  • Having a university degree in another field but with at least 3 years of continuous work experience in the tourism sector;have taken supplementary courses to improve their knowledge.To achieve a level equivalent to a university degree in tourism.

III. Priority Policies.

1. Candidates who receive priority in admissions belong to the following categories:
  • War invalids, those entitled to benefits similar to war invalids.
  • Hero of the Armed Forces, Hero of Labor
  • People belonging to ethnic minorities
  • Individuals who have been continuously working for two years or more in highland, mountainous, island, or remote areas, as of the date of application for the exam.
2. Candidates belonging to priority groups will receive an additional ten points.(on a 100-point scale) for the foreign language subject and one point (on a 10-point scale) for the basic subject. Individuals belonging to multiple priority categories are only entitled to priority once. Priority applicants must have all valid supporting documents as stipulated by Hanoi National University and must submit them fully and on time along with their application for the entrance examination.

IV. Subjects eligible for training support funding from the state budget.

Candidates for postgraduate studies are officials, civil servants, and public employees (according to the Civil Servant Ordinance) who have a decision from their agency to send them to study and are within the quota funded by the State.

V. Standard training time and maximum training duration

The standard training duration and maximum training period for each master's degree program are 2 years (24 months) and 5 years (60 months), respectively. The standard training duration and maximum training period for each doctoral degree program are 3 years (36 months) and 6 years (72 months) for those with a master's degree, and 4 years (48 months) and 7 years (84 months) for those without a master's degree.

VI. Examination Subjects

1. Graduate students take exams in 3 subjects.Basic, foundational, foreign language (one of five languages: Russian, German, English, French, Chinese).2. Graduate students
  • Applicants with a bachelor's degree will take exams in basic subjects, foundational subjects, a foreign language, and defend their research proposal.
  • For master's degree applicants: foreign language proficiency and research proposal defense.

VII. Application documents (There are samples available at the school.)

1. Application form for the entrance exam, using the template provided by Hanoi National University. 2. Curriculum vitae with confirmation from the managing agency or local government where the applicant resides (for those not working in state-owned or private enterprises, or those working in agencies but not sent to study by their agency). 3. Health certificate for studying from a general hospital (valid for 6 months from the date of application). 4. Certified copies of the following diplomas and certificates:
  • University diploma and transcript with certified grades from the competent authority (for candidates applying for master's or doctoral programs but without a master's degree); master's degree and master's transcript (for candidates applying for doctoral programs who already have a master's degree).
  • Certificate of supplementary knowledge (if required to attend supplementary courses);
  • Recruitment or appointment decision (if applicable to government officials) or long-term employment contract and certificate of work experience.
  • A notarized copy of legal documents proving eligibility for priority consideration (if applicable).
  • A notarized copy of legal documents proving foreign language proficiency (if any).
5. Letter of recommendation from the head of the managing agency for candidates currently working in state-owned or private agencies, units, or enterprises. 6. Three envelopes with the candidate's address already written and stamped, and four 3x4 photos. 7. Doctoral research proposal, academic resume, and copies of published research works (for candidates applying for doctoral training). The doctoral proposal should clearly state the reasons for choosing the research field, the reasons for choosing the training institution, research objectives, implementation plan during the training period; the experience and professional knowledge the candidate has prepared, and the candidate's planned scientific activities after completing the doctoral training program. 8. Two letters of recommendation from two scientists with the academic titles of Professor, Associate Professor, or Doctor of Science, Doctor of Philosophy in the same field, one of whom will serve as the thesis supervisor. The letter of recommendation should include comments and assessments of the candidate's abilities and qualities (for candidates applying for doctoral programs).

VIII. Candidates who are exempt from the foreign language exam.

1. Hold a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree from a foreign university where the language of instruction was one of five languages: English, Russian, French, German, or Chinese. 2. Hold a bachelor's degree in a foreign language from a regular university program in one of the five languages ​​mentioned above. 3. Possess a TOEFL (Institutional or International) score of 400 (or equivalent) or IELTS score of 4.0 for master's degree applicants; a TOEFL (Institutional or International) score of 450 (or equivalent) or IELTS score of 4.5 for doctoral degree applicants; or possess a valid foreign language certificate confirming the level of proficiency required for postgraduate studies at Vietnam National University, Hanoi, corresponding to the level of study applied for. These certificates are valid for two years from the date of the examination.

IX. Admission Plan

X. Admission costs

1. Registration fee: 50,000 VND. 2. Examination fees: 2.1. Postgraduate: 300,000 VND 2.2. Doctoral candidates:
  • From Bachelor's degree: 500,000 VND
  • From Master's degree: 300,000 VND
Candidates who are exempt from the foreign language exam will have their exam fee reduced by 50,000 VND.
