Specialized fields:

I. Contestants
Citizens of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam who meet all the conditions specified in the Regulations on postgraduate training at Hanoi National University issued under Decision No. 3810/KHCN dated October 10, 2007 of the Director of Hanoi National University.
II. Contest conditions
1. Candidate for PhD
- Have a master's degree in the same or similar major, or a major close to the major registered for the exam.
- Have a master's degree in another major and have a regular university degree in the same or similar major as the registered major. In this case, the candidate must have at least1 article published in a scientific journal or a collection of scientific conference proceedings before submitting the applicationand must take the exam according to the regime for people without a master's degree.
- Have a regular university degree in the right major,excellent or betterand have at least1 article published in a scientific journal or a collection of scientific conference proceedings before submitting the application.
- Have a regular university degree in the right major, with good grades and have at least2 articles published in scientific journals or collections of scientific conference papers before submitting the application.
The content of the articles must be consistent with the research direction registered for the contest.
* Candidates for the PhD program must have at least 2 years of professional work experience in the field of the major they registered for (from the date of signing the decision to recognize university graduation to the date of admission), except in the case of transfer students.
2. Graduate entrance exam
- Have a university degree in the same or similar major as the registered major.
- Have a college degreeregular system of the industrywith the major registered for the exam,have taken supplementary knowledgeto have a degree equivalent to a university degree in the major of the exam.
* Years of service
- People with a university degree of good or higher can take the exam immediately after graduating from university in a major that is the same or suitable to the major they registered for the exam.
- In the remaining cases, you must have at least 2 years of working experience in a professional field suitable for the major you are applying for (calculated from the date of signing the Decision on university graduation recognition to the date of admission).
* For candidates taking the exam for Science and Technology Management major:Must have a full-time university degree, specialized or part-time, with a certificate of additional knowledge of the major being tested; be a leader and specialist of science and technology management units of administrative agencies, state-owned enterprises, political organizations, socio-political organizations; have at least 02 years of working experience in a field related to the major being tested (including those with a university degree of good or higher).
* For candidates taking the tourism major exam
- Have a university degree in tourism;
- Have a regular degree in tourism economics, tourism geography, tourism culture;have taken supplementary knowledgeto have a qualification equivalent to a university degree in tourism.
- Have a university degree in another major but have at least 03 years of continuous work experience in the tourism field;have taken supplementary knowledgeto have a qualification equivalent to a university degree in tourism.
III. Priority policy.
1. Candidates who are given priority in admission are the following:
- War invalids, people who enjoy the same policies as war invalids
- Hero of the armed forces, Hero of labor
- Ethnic minorities
- People who have been working continuously for two years or more in mountainous, highland, island, and remote areas, as of the date of application submission.
2. Candidates in priority groups will receive an additional ten points.(100-point scale) for foreign language and one point (10-point scale) for basic subject. People belonging to multiple priority groups are only entitled to one priority. Priority groups must have all valid supporting documents as prescribed by Hanoi National University and must submit them fully and on time with the application for the exam.
IV. Subjects receiving training support funding from the state budget
Candidates for postgraduate exams are cadres, civil servants, and public employees (according to the Civil Servants Ordinance) who have a decision from the agency to send them to study and are within the quota with State funding.
V. Standard training time and maximum training period
The standard training period and the maximum training period of each master's training course are 2 years (24 months) and 5 years (60 months) respectively. The standard training period and the maximum training period of each doctoral training course are 3 years (36 months) and 6 years (72 months) respectively for those with a master's degree, 4 years (48 months) and 7 years (84 months) respectively for those without a master's degree.
VI. Exam subjects
1. Graduate exam 3 subjects: basic, fundamental, foreign language (1 of 5 languages: Russian, German, English, French, Chinese).
2. Graduate student
- Admission from bachelor's degree: Basic, fundamental, foreign language exams and research thesis defense.
- Master's degree application: foreign language and research thesis defense.
VII. Application documents (Sample available at school)
1. Application form for the exam according to the form of Hanoi National University. 2. CV certified by the management agency or local authority of the place of residence (for those who do not work in state or non-state agencies, units or enterprises, or those who work in agencies but are not sent to study by the agency). 3. Certificate of good health for study from a general hospital (valid for 6 months from the date of application submission). 4. Certified copies of the following diplomas and certificates by the State notary:
- University diploma and full university transcript with confirmation of classification by the competent authority (for candidates applying for master's or doctoral training but do not have a master's degree); master's degree and master's transcript (for candidates applying for doctoral training who already have a master's degree)
- Certificate of additional knowledge (if required to take additional knowledge);
- Recruitment or appointment decision (if a civil servant) or long-term labor contract and certificate of seniority.
- Notarized copy of legal documents on priority subjects (if any)
- Notarized copy of legal documents on foreign language proficiency (if any)
5. Letter of recommendation from the head of the management agency for those working in state or non-state agencies, units, or enterprises. 6. 03 envelopes with the candidate's address written on them, with stamps, 04 3x4 photos. 7. PhD research proposal, scientific resume, and copies of published research works (for candidates applying for doctoral training). The PhD proposal must clearly state the reasons for choosing the research field, the reasons for choosing the training institution, research objectives, implementation plan during the training period; the experiences and professional knowledge that the candidate has prepared, and the candidate's planned scientific activities after completing the doctoral training program. 8. Two letters of recommendation from two scientists with the scientific title of Professor, Associate Professor, or the degree of Doctor of Science, Doctor of Science in the same major, one of whom will be the thesis supervisor. The recommendation letter must include comments and assessments of the candidate's abilities and qualities (for candidates applying for doctoral training).
VIII. Subjects exempted from foreign language exam.
1. Have a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree from a foreign country where the language used in study is one of the five languages: English, Russian, French, German, Chinese. 2. Have a regular university degree in a foreign language in one of the five languages mentioned above. 3. Have a TOEFL certificate (Institutional or International) of 400 points (or equivalent) or IELTS of 4.0 points for applicants for master's training; Have a TOEFL certificate (Institutional or International) of 450 points (or equivalent) or IELTS of 4.5 points for applicants for doctoral training; Have a foreign language certificate confirming the level of postgraduate training at VNU, Hanoi, which is still valid and corresponding to the training level registered for the exam. These certificates are valid for 2 years from the date of taking the exam to obtain the certificate.

Candidates are exempted from the foreign language exam, and the exam fee is reduced by 50,000 VND.
