In accordance with the 2010-2011 academic year plan and the key tasks of Phase II in the roadmap for transforming university education to a credit-based system, the University issues the plan for organizing the first Academic Advisor Professional Competition: “Accompanying – Responsible – Creative” as follows.
I. OBJECTIVES AND REQUIREMENTS
1. Purpose - To improve the professional skills of academic advisors and the sense of responsibility of academic advisor management staff. - To raise awareness among lecturers and students about the role of academic advisors in training activities; - To commend exemplary academic advisors; and to contribute to developing solutions for innovating the academic advising model of the university. 2. Requirements - All academic advisors are responsible for fully participating in all aspects of the competition. - The heads of faculties/departments shall appoint one member to directly supervise the academic advisors of their unit participating in the competition and simultaneously be the team captain in the second and third rounds; - The university website shall promptly publish news and articles about the competition activities; the Trade Union, Youth Union, and Student Association shall organize activities to encourage their members to actively participate in the competition.
II. COMPETITION RULES
The competition consists of three rounds. After the first round, the top 8 teams with the highest scores advance to the second round. After the second round, 4 teams advance to the final round. Teams are determined by their field of study. For Vietnamese Studies and Anthropology, the team selection for the second round will be decided after the results of the first round are available. 1. Round “Companionship” - Participants: Academic advisors from all units - Competition content: Regulations in the training program, procedures for advising students on course registration, major selection, and how to develop a study plan… - Competition format: Multiple choice (30 minutes, maximum 45 points) + Essay (45 minutes, maximum 55 points). - Scoring: Each individual essay is worth a maximum of 100 points. An individual essay scoring 80/100 points will be weighted 1.2. The team score will then be calculated. 1. Team Score: The team score is the average score of all individual participants. 2. "Responsibility" Round - Participants: Teams selected for Round 2 - Content: Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the current training model; analyze the advantages and difficulties students face during their studies and clarify the responsibilities of academic advisors and training unit leaders. - Format: Teams will write a test (maximum 10 A4 pages). Afterwards, the team will present and defend their written work before the Judging Panel, representatives from teams not participating in Round 2, and student representatives. The maximum presentation time is 5 minutes. - Scoring: The maximum score is 100 points, with 50 points awarded by the Judging Panel for the written test and 50 points for the presentation and defense. 3. "Creative" Round - Participants: Teams selected for Round 3 (including student participation). - Content: Introduction to the training program and the work of the academic advisor for that program, and handling a professional situation involving academic advising students. - Format: Stage performance. + Introduction to the training program and the work of the academic advisor for that program. The presentation format is chosen by the team, with a maximum of 5 minutes per team. The maximum score is 25 points. + Optional situation handling test: The team creates and solves a situation. The presentation format is chosen by the team, with a maximum of 5 minutes per team. The maximum score is 35 points. + Mandatory situation handling test: Each team will receive one situation from the judging panel, presented via video clip. The maximum preparation time is 2 minutes. The time to resolve the situation is no more than 2 minutes. After solving the problem presented in the test, the team will answer one additional question posed by a student in the auditorium. If there are multiple student questions, the judging panel will designate a specific question for the team to answer. If no student asks a question, the judging panel will ask it. For this question, the team has no time to prepare and must answer immediately. The maximum time allotted for answering is 2 minutes. The maximum score for the test is 40 points, with the on-the-spot question-and-answer portion (by a student or the judging panel) worth a maximum of 15 points.
III. AWARDS
The prizes include commemorative flags and cash awards as follows: 1. Team Awards (Final Round) - Special Prize: 2,000,000 VND (two million dong), - First Prize: 1,000,000 VND (one million dong), - Second Prize: 800,000 VND (eight hundred thousand dong), - Third Prize: 600,000 VND (six hundred thousand dong), 2. Individual Awards - 5 prizes for the best individual entries in Round 1: 500,000 VND (five hundred thousand dong) each. - 1 prize for the most outstanding student advisor in the competition: 700,000 VND (seven hundred thousand dong).

Summary report of 4 years of credit-based undergraduate training at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (2006-2010) presented at the Conference summarizing 4 years of credit-based undergraduate training held on December 4, 2010. (All the above documents are available on the Training Department's website: http://dt.ussh.edu.vn) The competition is an important activity in the solutions to promote in-depth credit-based undergraduate training. The university requests: - Faculty leaders should uphold personal responsibility and promptly implement the tasks instructed by the Organizing Committee with the highest quality. - Academic advisors should actively and enthusiastically participate in the competition with a serious and learning spirit, for the sake of their work, the students, and the quality of education at the university. - All students should actively participate in the student competition on the theme "Asking questions and posing scenarios for academic advisors at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities" and other related activities. - Leaders of functional departments, the Trade Union, the Youth Union, and the Student Association should take concrete measures to contribute to the overall success of the competition. - The university website should create a special section on the competition, proactively soliciting opinions from faculty and students throughout the university on issues related to this important aspect of credit-based university education.
