Question: I am a candidate taking the science-related entrance exam (Group A), and my dream is to work in politics. What majors can I apply for to fulfill my dream?
Dr. Lai Quoc KhanhIn 2012, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities had 12 majors that admitted students from Group A, including Political Science, a major whose name perfectly reflects what you're looking for. This major is attractive to students not only because of its system of knowledge and fundamental methods regarding political and social issues and problem-solving skills in political practice, but also because of the appeal and challenges of the future career. Besides Political Science, there are other majors that admit students from Group A, and in reality, graduates still work well in the political system and in activities related to the political field. These include Journalism, Anthropology, International Studies, Philosophy, and Sociology. If you are surprised by this, you can refer to the University's website for specific information about these majors. The website currently has a copy of the 2012 University Admissions Handbook for Social Sciences and Humanities majors that you can download to view on your computer. Please note that the download is free. If you still have questions, feel free to ask, and the teachers will continue to answer them, or they will answer you during the online consultation program which will continue at 9:30 AM on Saturday, March 24, 2012.
If I don't get enough points to get into the Oriental Studies department, am I entitled to transfer to another department at the university? Will my application be automatically transferred, or do I need to go through any other registration procedures?
Mr. Nguyen Van Hong – Staff member of the Training DepartmentIn the 2012 university entrance exam, if you don't get into your registered major but meet the following conditions: 1) Your exam score is at or above the minimum score set by Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and 2) You wish to register for other majors at the university, then you will be allowed to transfer to one of the majors with remaining slots. Detailed instructions for this transfer will be announced by the university's admissions council when the university entrance exam results and the cut-off scores for first-choice majors are published (expected before August 15, 2012). However, please note that this regulation only creates an opportunity for you to register, not a 100% guarantee. Therefore, I wish you high scores in the upcoming exam and that you get accepted into your first-choice major.
I've heard that journalism is a profession that requires constant "reading, traveling, thinking, and writing." How will we learn to do all of that in the Faculty of Journalism and Communication?
Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh HuyenThat's a great question. Journalism is exactly as you described. In the Journalism program, besides studying in the classroom, students must practice information gathering and processing skills in real-world situations, just like professional journalists. They will learn and practice with specialized equipment such as cameras, audio recorders, video cameras, and editing software. From their second year, the Faculty organizes internships at newsrooms and media organizations. At the end of the course, they will complete a 3-month graduation internship. This helps them hone their "reading, traveling, thinking, and writing" skills, preparing them to become professional journalists. I plan to major in Psychology this year, but I'm unsure about job opportunities. Could you tell me where I can work after graduating from this program? What is the employment rate for graduates?
MSc Nguyen Van LuotHello, along with the socio-economic development of the country, and the opening up and integration with the region and the world, psychological and mental health issues have emerged that need to be addressed. Therefore, the demand for human resources in this field is increasing, and Psychology is playing an increasingly important role in social life. After graduating with a degree in Psychology, you can work in the following places: - In training institutions (as a psychology teacher at colleges, universities, etc.); - In research institutions (as a research officer, community development project officer at psychology institutes, psychology research and application centers, domestic and international non-governmental organizations, etc.); - In companies and centers providing psychological counseling services (as a counselor, therapist, etc.); - In manufacturing and business enterprises (Human Resources staff; Marketing department; Advertising design, Market research, etc.); - In mass organizations (Youth Union, People's Committee of Wards and Communes, etc.); - In hospitals (working as psychological therapists for children and adults); - In secondary schools (working as school counselors, career counselors, etc.). Regarding the employment rate of graduates, a survey on the employment situation of Psychology students conducted in 2011 showed that 90.2% were employed; 89.7% of students found employment within 6 months of graduation. The average income ranged from 3-5 million VND, depending on the job position.
Dear Professor, I'm wondering what kinds of organizations or institutions I could work for if I graduate with a degree in Sociology?
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim HoaHello, graduates in Sociology can work in many different organizations. In fact, many Sociology graduates have become lecturers at vocational schools, colleges, universities, and academies; many have become researchers at institutes and research centers. Working in Party and State agencies, and socio-political organizations from the central to provincial, district, commune, and ward levels is also a choice for many Sociology graduates. Many Sociology graduates have worked at radio and television stations. Companies and businesses also need many personnel with Sociology degrees.
I have a relative who's studying Journalism & Communication. He said that students in that department make money very easily. Is that true?
Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh HuyenThat's a fascinating and interesting question. In fact, many students in the Faculty of Journalism and Communication have news articles and other content published right from their first year. During their practical training, the best works are selected and submitted to newspapers, radio stations, television channels, etc., and they receive royalties. These royalties are quite high nowadays. Therefore, many students don't have to rely on their families financially, remaining completely independent throughout their student life and even being able to help their families.
Dear teachers, I greatly admire television presenters like Anh Tuan, Ta Bich Loan, and My Lan… I recently won first prize in the “Charming Student” contest at my school. If I pass the entrance exam and study at the Faculty of Journalism and Communication, could I become a successful television presenter?
Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh HuyenCongratulations on winning a top prize in the "Charming Student" competition! This is a great advantage for a career as a presenter. The Faculty of Journalism and Communication has trained many famous editors and television presenters such as Miss Sports, presenters Thu Huong, Thanh Huong, Bui Thu Thuy, Bach Duong, Luu Minh Vu, Ngoc Quang, etc. We sincerely hope that in the not-too-distant future, television viewers will be able to watch a charming and intelligent presenter who has matured from the Faculty of Journalism and Communication – and that person is you.
Hello Professor. What is the enrollment quota for the Political Science major this year? After completing my undergraduate studies, will I have the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies?
Dr. Lai Quoc KhanhHello, in 2012, the Political Science department at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was allocated a student enrollment quota of 70. Currently, in addition to the undergraduate level, Political Science is a pioneering department in Vietnam in providing postgraduate training, including Master's and Doctoral degrees in Political Science.
I want to apply to a university, but that university doesn't hold entrance exams. What should I do?
MSc. Dinh Viet HaiIf the university you registered for as your first choice does not organize its own entrance exam, you will have to take the exam at another university in the same subject group that does. In that case, when filling out the application form, please note: Section 2: Write the name of the university you will take the exam at and the subject group; leave the major field blank. Section 3: Write the full name of the university that does not organize its own entrance exam, the subject group, and the code of the major you wish to register for as your first choice.
I won third prize in the national English competition for gifted students this year. I understand that the university is offering direct admission to all national-level gifted students (those with third prize or higher) without any limit. So, will I be able to choose my university and major? I'd like to apply to the Business Administration major at the University of Economics. Thank you!
Teacher Nguyen Van HongPlease pay attention next time and ask at the correct address so you can get more information. Although your intention for university entrance exams is not the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, your question is a concern for many other candidates, so I will still answer as follows: Please go to the address below to see the detailed instructions from the Ministry of Education and Training:
http://www.moet.gov.vn/?page=1.26&view=4017
I've learned through newspapers and television that the field of social work is receiving a lot of attention from society, especially with the Prime Minister's issuance of Project 32 on the Development of Social Work and the fact that social work is a profession with a professional code. So, I would like to ask, what is social work?
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoi LoanHello! Social work is a relatively new profession in our society today and is attracting widespread attention due to its nature. Social work involves assisting (through counseling and intervention) vulnerable groups in society through individual social work, group social work, and community development, helping them overcome the problems they face in life and integrate into society.
Sir, if I pass the entrance exam for Political Science, what specializations can I pursue?
Dr. Lai Quoc KhanhHello. If you pass the entrance exam for Political Science, after completing the foundational course, you will be advised on choosing a specialization from two options: Political Science and Ho Chi Minh Studies, focusing on Vietnamese Politics, International Politics, and Political Theory. In the near future, Political Science will open several new specializations such as Politics and Communication, Comparative Political Science, etc. Good luck with your upcoming university entrance exam!

Hello Professor, I saw on the National University's website that the Faculty of Psychology offers a French-language Clinical Psychology program. I would like to know more about this program.
MSc. Nguyen Van LuotThe French-language Clinical Psychology program (Filière Universitaire Francophone de Psychologie Clinique, abbreviated as FUF Psycho.Clinique) was established and began implementation in the 2001-2002 academic year. This is a training program between the Faculty of Psychology (University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) and the University of Toulouse II – Le Mirail (Republic of France), with financial support from the Agency for Francophone Universities in the Asia-Pacific Region (AUF), along with assistance from the French Embassy, the City of Toulouse – France, the Association for the Development of Education and Psychology in Southeast Asia (ADEPASE), etc. The total number of basic French language hours for students studying the French-language Clinical Psychology program over four years is 690 hours. In addition, students are allowed to complete their graduation thesis in French (if they meet the language and professional requirements). Students study 7 specialized subjects in French (total duration 315 hours). It's important to note that students majoring in French-language Clinical Psychology simultaneously pursue a Bachelor of Psychology degree in Vietnamese. Students receive preferential treatment similar to that of high-achieving students. Upon graduation, they are considered for scholarships from the AUF organization and the French Embassy to pursue postgraduate programs in France. As of 2011, 120 students had graduated from this program, with 10 receiving scholarships from the French Embassy and AUF to continue their studies at a higher level. Graduates of this program are currently working at: the National Children's Hospital, Mai Huong Day Psychiatric Hospital, NT Child Psychology Research Center, VIP School, Dinh Tien Hoang High School, Tuna Clinic, Binh Yen House... and numerous other government and non-governmental organizations.
Professor, could you give me an example of a specific job that a Sociology graduate could do?
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim HoaHi, here's a specific example. Before building a road through a residential area, a sociologist might be invited to assess the impact of the road construction on the economic and social lives of the residents. The sociologist's research results help in developing solutions for land acquisition, relocating occupations and jobs for the community, and assisting in the development of socio-economic planning for the community's growth.
I want to apply to the Broadcasting and Television department at the university, but I can't find the registration code. What should I do to register? Also, if I apply to the Journalism department but my score isn't high enough to meet the department's cutoff, can I transfer to another department with the same score and subject group? I would greatly appreciate advice from the university's admissions office. Thank you very much!
Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh HuyenThe University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi, only offers one major: Journalism. Students will study all aspects of media, including print journalism, online journalism, radio and television broadcasting, public relations, and advertising. Therefore, you can confidently apply to the Journalism program and study the major you love. If you don't score high enough to get into Journalism, you can transfer to another major within the same field if you meet the requirements.
Sir, I really enjoy watching political commentary on television and I dream of working like those political commentators someday. Could you advise me on what major I should study?
Dr. Lai Quoc KhanhHello! I'm very happy to have another person with similar interests! To fulfill your dreams, there are many fields you can choose from, and one that I think will help you achieve yours is Political Science. Political Science, with its specialization in Politics and Communication, will not only equip you with the necessary skills of a commentator, but with its fundamental and in-depth knowledge, methods, and skills, you will have the basic conditions to deeply and broadly understand and become a sharp and persuasive political commentator. I wish you success!
Psychology sounds very unfamiliar. Could you please tell me what psychology students study?
MSc. Nguyen Van LuotHi, Psychology is currently only offered at a few universities. Besides general courses, students in this field can choose one of four specializations at the end of their third year: Social Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, and Management-Business Psychology. In addition to acquiring fundamental knowledge in areas such as general psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, and family psychology, students gain practical experience and internships in psychology at various institutions such as hospitals, schools, research institutes, businesses/organizations, and psychological counseling and examination centers. This ensures students are well-equipped with both knowledge and professional skills. You can find more information about Psychology at the following link:
http://ussh.vnu.edu.vn/nganh-tam-li-hoc/1669I wish you success!
Sir, I often see recruitment announcements on television and in newspapers for majors such as Human Resource Management, Hotel Management, Economic Management, etc. So, if I study Management at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, what specific management skills will I learn?
Dr. Dao Thanh TruongIn the Management Science program at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, you will be equipped with the most general knowledge in the field of management such as: - Economic Management, - Human Resource Management, - Strategic Management, - Risk and Crisis Management, - Science and Technology Management, etc. In addition, the training program allows you to delve into one of the following specialized areas: - Human Resource Management, - Social Policy and Social Issues, - Science and Technology Management, - Intellectual Property Management.
Dear teachers and admissions counselors, I will be participating in the 2012 admissions process soon. I have a few questions and would appreciate your help. I am interested in the Journalism and International Studies majors at the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities. I really want to work in Public Relations (PR) after graduation. I understand that students in both majors can work in PR; is that correct? Does the Journalism major have a Public Relations specialization? What knowledge about PR is taught in that specialization, and what is the total amount of PR knowledge? Does the International Studies major offer a lot of PR training, and what is the English language proficiency requirement for graduation? I would greatly appreciate your prompt answers so that I can make a suitable choice. Thank you very much!
Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh HuyenFrom your question, it's clear you have a very clear vision for your future career. Public relations (PR) is a relatively new field of study in Vietnam, but it's very attractive to young people. The demand for well-trained professionals in this field is also very high. The public relations profession requires proficiency in communication skills, media relations skills, foundational knowledge of social sciences and journalism, and foreign languages… Therefore, studying at the Faculty of Journalism and Communication offers many advantages. The Faculty's training program allows students to choose one of the following specialized fields: print/online journalism; broadcasting; public relations/advertising. The Public Relations/Advertising specialization provides fundamental knowledge and skills in social sciences and communication, as well as in-depth knowledge of public relations. In-depth knowledge of PR alone accounts for approximately 50 out of 135 credits. For other information related to the International Studies program, please continue to follow the school's online discussions.
Dear teachers, I graduated in 2011 and am a private candidate this year. I wish to apply to the Oriental Studies department. There have been many changes to the registration process this year, so I would like to ask how to prepare the application form and whether it can be submitted at the school? Will the exam notification be picked up at the school or sent to my family? Thank you.
Teacher Nguyen Van HongWhile preparing your university entrance exam application this year, please note the following information: 1. The exam code for each major has changed according to the new list of major codes issued by the Ministry of Education and Training. You can view the new major codes in the 2012 admissions information of the University, posted on the website: http://ussh.vnu.edu.vn. 2. A section for "specialization" has been added to the information about the university you are applying to. However, when applying to majors at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, you do not need to fill in this section. 3. The application submission period has changed. The application period at the local level is from March 15th to April 16th, and at the universities organizing the exams is from April 17th to April 23rd, 2012. Therefore, from April 17th to 5:00 PM on April 23rd, you can submit your application directly at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. When you come to submit your application, the school's admissions officer will guide you on how to receive your examination notification.
Sir, are there any special qualities required to study Management Science?
Dr. Dao Thanh TruongIf you have aspirations such as: - Enjoying management work and working with people. - Possessing strong character, decisiveness, and a constant drive for innovation. - Being dynamic, creative, confident, and having a professional style. - Desiring numerous opportunities for career advancement, success, and high income. - Always aspiring to become a professional manager (entrepreneur, consultant, manager in government agencies, socio-economic organizations). ... Then we recommend you choose to study Management Science.
Since I was a child, I've enjoyed reading history books, especially those with insightful and courageous political stories, and I've found many valuable lessons for life today. Therefore, I'm very interested in delving deeper into the political wisdom of humanity. Can Political Science help me with this?
Dr. Lai Quoc KhanhThat's a great question. Political intelligence is a high level of intelligence, applicable not only in politics but also in many other areas of social life. The Department of Political Science at the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities has a specialized major in Political Theory that systematically studies the political thought, doctrines, and intelligence of humanity from East to West, from ancient times to the present. The research achievements accumulated over many years in this major will certainly help you and anyone interested not only understand but also apply political intelligence in contemporary life. See you at the Department of Political Science, Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities!
Dear teachers, I really enjoy studying Politics and want to apply to your university, but I don't know what I'll do after graduation. I would appreciate your advice.
Dr. Lai Quoc KhanhHello. As a relatively new field in Vietnam, this major offers abundant job opportunities. Graduates in Political Science can pursue careers such as: + Providing advice and support in agencies responsible for formulating policies and guidelines for the Party and State. + Providing advice and support in agencies and organizations within the political system, as well as socio-economic organizations. + Conducting research in political theory institutions. + Working as reporters, editors, and commentators on current affairs and politics at central and local newspapers and television stations. + Conducting research and teaching political science in Party schools, universities, colleges, and vocational schools. Furthermore, although the first graduating class of this major only started in 2012, its graduates are considered dynamic and possess a distinct identity. I wish you success with your chosen field. I look forward to seeing you again in the "common home" of Political Science.
Professors, I have a question: Do political science students get to participate in many practical activities?
Dr. Lai Quoc KhanhHello, the political science program at the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities is designed to provide students with a theoretical framework, help them acquire various practical methods and skills, and create opportunities for them to test their learned theories and practice the methods and skills they have acquired. The program also allocates a reasonable amount of time for professional internships so that students can learn and begin to apply what they have learned in a real-world work environment. The individualized internship format applied in political science training at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities truly immerses students in a real-world environment, contributing to their rapid growth.
I graduated from the Central College of Broadcasting and Television I, majoring in Journalism. I would like to pursue a full-time university degree through a bridging program. Could you please tell me if the school offers any bridging programs from college to university level, leading to a full-time degree in journalism?
Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh HuyenAccording to the training regulations of Hanoi National University, if students transfer from college to university at member schools, they will be awarded a part-time bachelor's degree. Therefore, there are no full-time college-to-university transfer programs that award a regular degree in journalism.
1. Many people believe that if you have talent, it's entirely possible to switch to journalism, so are journalism students redundant? 2. As far as I know, while the Academy of Journalism and Communication has separate departments to train in different areas of journalism, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities only has one department to train students in print, television, and photojournalism. So what are the advantages and disadvantages of this department at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities? 3. Do you think the admission scores for the journalism department at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will fluctuate much this year? Usually, the journalism department recruits enough students very quickly, right? 4. If the admissions process extends until December, how will the enrollment process change? 5. Could you please provide me with some websites or forums for senior students at the university to interact and exchange information?
Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh HuyenThank you for your five questions. We found the main answers in your questions. If you are truly interested in the Faculty and the University, please refer to the link below: http://ussh.vnu.edu.vn

Dear teachers, I am planning to apply to the Social Work program this year. Could you please tell me where graduates of the Social Work program can work and if there is a high demand for jobs in society? Thank you very much!
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoi LoanHello, According to the Prime Minister's Project 32 from 2010 to 2020, we must retrain and train 60,000 social workers for the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to achieve intermediate, college, university, and postgraduate levels. There is currently a huge societal demand for professional social workers. Basically, social work is a relatively new field in our country, and professional training at the bachelor's level has been offered for almost a decade now. Regarding postgraduate training, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi is currently the first and only institution in the country offering a Master's degree in Social Work. After graduation, students can work in departments and agencies related to social policy development (Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, etc.), state-run centers supporting vulnerable groups (social protection centers, etc.), non-governmental organizations working in the fields of children, people with disabilities, and health, and state agencies: schools, hospitals, and agencies protecting mothers and children. They can also work as university lecturers at universities and colleges that offer social work programs, as counselors in psychosocial support centers, as treatment support staff in hospitals and schools, as researchers, and as community development project officers. There will be many other job opportunities, but first, you must focus on passing the university entrance exam for the Social Work major. I wish you success in life.
The sociologist's research results help in developing solutions for land clearance, relocating occupations and jobs for the community, and assisting in the development of socio-economic planning for community development. Therefore, you can imagine that graduates in Sociology can work for institutes, research agencies, consulting organizations, and other similar organizations.
