On April 3rd, 2025, at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the book launch for "Archival Science and the Digital Transformation in Vietnam: Legal and Practical Issues for the 21st Century," published by Nomos, Federal Republic of Germany, will take place.
The book "Archival Science and the Digital Transformation in Vietnam: Legal and Practical Issues for the 21st Century" compiles research papers by authors from the Department of Archival Science and Office Management, University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The book provides an overview of modern archival science, not only in Vietnam but also in an international context; it is a valuable document reflecting the profound changes in archival practices from traditional to digital.

Previously, archiving focused primarily on handwritten documents, but now it encompasses a wide range of formats such as images, audio recordings, videos, and especially digital data. Archival documents are not only stored in traditional physical forms but are also digitized to serve users remotely. Archival science has become a modern information science; archivists today not only preserve documents but also actively collect, manage, and provide information to various stakeholders, from government and researchers to the general public.
The topics in this book have been comprehensively addressed through a collection of articles by the following authors:
- Digital transformation in storage (Vu Dinh Phong)
- Digital Humanities (by Thu Hien)
- Digitizing traditional documents (Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh)
- The role of social networks in archiving (Nguyen Trung Duc)
- Application of the document lifecycle theory (Le Thi Nguyet Luu)
- Oral tradition archives (Nguyen Hong Duy)
- Right to access information (Pham Thi Dieu Linh)
- Information security and safety (Nguyen Anh Tai)
- Risk management in warehousing (Tran Thanh Tung)
- Digital storage management system (Nguyen Trong Tam)
- Utilizing journalistic materials (Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong)
- Enterprise Storage (Cam Anh Tuan)
- Internationalization of research and international cooperation in archives (Le Thi Ly, Le Tuyet Mai)
Regarding the future direction of archiving, Professor Detlef Briesen (Justus-Liebig University of Gießen, Germany) emphasized that "AI and disruptive technologies will continue to transform the archiving industry, opening up new opportunities but also posing many challenges. He believes the book has suggested interesting topics for further research and publications."
