Part 1: Summary of the association's work and student movement in term IV (2007–2009)

I. Situation characteristics

The 2007-2009 term of the Student Association of the University is the fourth term, continuing to promote the achievements in the Association's work and the student movement of the previous terms. The Congress took place at a time when there were many events of important significance to the Association's work and the student movement: deploying and implementing the Resolution of the School's Youth Union Congress for the 2007-2009 term, the Hanoi National University Youth Union for the 2007-2012 term; welcoming the Hanoi National University Student Union Congress; welcoming the 13th City Youth Union - Student Association Congress towards the National Youth Union Congress for the 2008-2012 term and the 8th National Student Association Congress, etc. International exchange activities were expanded, the University built medium-term and long-term development strategies - these are major orientations, an important basis for building development strategies of the Student Association. The gradual transition to a credit training model in the school's training is both a challenge and an opportunity for the Student Association to self-adjust its organizational structure in a synchronous and systematic manner. The Congress determined the key goals of the term as: Maintaining and promoting the achievements and leading position in the movement of the Student Association of VNU Hanoi, the Student Association of Hanoi City; continuing to build and consolidate the organization, innovate operating methods, improve the quality and efficiency of work, attract members and students to the emulation movement of studying, scientific research and training for tomorrow's career.

II. Results of the Association's activities during the 2007-2009 term

1. Coordination activities with the Youth Union 1.1. Propaganda and political and ideological education work General assessmentTogether with the School Youth Union, the Student Association considers this an important activity closely linked to the Politburo's major campaign: Studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh. Along with continuing to maintain regular activities, the School Student Association and the Youth Union have stepped up coordination with mass organizations inside and outside the school and have many innovative forms in political and ideological education for union members and students.Results achievedImplementing the movement to study and follow the moral example of Ho Chi Minh: Establishing the Steering Committee of the movement; organizing a Storytelling contest about the moral example of Ho Chi Minh at the school level; holding discussions in each branch with the direction of each branch with a slogan in response to the movement to study and follow the example of Uncle Ho; the Journey in Uncle Ho's Footsteps Contest (LCH Sociology), Exhibition of books about Ho Chi Minh (LCH Library Information), Exhibition of calligraphy of Ho Chi Minh's works (LCH Faculty of Literature), participating in the Youth Camp to study and follow Uncle Ho's words (winning 1 First Prize in the Singing Festival to offer Him, Second Prize in the Storytelling Contest about the moral example of Ho Chi Minh, First Prize in the Informatics Olympiad, Second Prize in the Camp),... Currently, the School's Student Association together with the Youth Union organization is continuing to implement this major movement among students with the direction of following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh in association with reality, contributing to building a disciplined and civilized school environment. Continue to maintain the stability and effectiveness of the traditional periodic activities, creating a foundation for the political and ideological education of union members: Student Citizen Activity Week at the beginning of the school year; orient the activities of the branch association in association with important political events; maintain the activities of the student forum svnhanvan.org, the quarterly Voluntary magazine with over 1,000 copies; the system of propaganda bulletin boards in the school, information boards in each lecture hall; maintain the distribution of the Student and Youth newspaper to each branch and the Association; ... Strengthen coordination with units inside and outside the school to improve the effectiveness of political and ideological education activities for union members: Exchange and exhibition with former prisoners of Phu Quoc Island (in coordination with the Veterans Association); Storytelling contest about the moral example of Ho Chi Minh and the Union singing festival, the theme of Ho Chi Minh (in coordination with the School Union); Journey to the source (in coordination with the Student Association of the University of Natural Sciences); ... Proactively grasp the ideological developments of student members, especially during times of politically sensitive events (the issue of border demarcation between Vietnam and China in 2008 and 2009). Provide timely and correct guidance to student members before those events, ensuring that the school's student members always have correct political awareness to serve the interests of the nation and people.1.2. Student Union organization building work General assessmentDuring the 2007-2009 term, the School's Student Association continued to coordinate and promote the core political role of the Youth Union, creating an organic connection in the process of implementing the movement activities of the School's youth.Results achievedThe School Student Association continues to maintain and strengthen training for association officials, paying attention to management skills and organizing branch-level activities in the credit-based training model. In addition, the School Student Association has proactively increased and encouraged joint activities with units outside the School to exchange and learn experiences, while promoting the connection between units in common activities. In addition to maintaining the stable operation of student clubs, the School Student Association has continued to develop a number of new club activity models to meet the practical needs of student movement activities (Student event organization group, Art Team, Stone Flower Club).2. Member consultation and support 2.1. Consulting and support on study and scientific research General assessmentDuring the 2007-2009 term, together with the Youth Union, the Student Association of the School took specific steps to participate in the process of improving the school's training quality; through activities to support and encourage student members in studying and scientific research.Results achievedContinue to maintain effective activities from previous terms: support first-year students with skills in exploiting information on the internet and learning methods at university level; Maintain the activities of the branch association associated with the goal of saying no to negativity in exams, disciplined study - quality exam preparation, support methods for organizing scientific research work for members, students, ... - Develop classes, short-term training courses on necessary soft skills, supplementing the professional learning process for student members: scientific report presentation skills, effective English learning methods, reading skills, time management skills, teamwork skills, ... - Find many sources of scholarships to encourage learning, especially for student members with difficult circumstances to strive to study well: Scholarship for Supporting Students to Go to School, Nguyen Thai Binh Scholarship, Scholarship for Overcoming Waves with Friends, KOVA Scholarship, Mobile Fone Scholarship, .... Student life support consulting General assessmentDuring the 2007-2009 term, the Student Association continued to promote student support and consulting activities through direct activities as well as integrating them into theatrical activities, forms of entertainment, cultural and artistic programs, club, group, and team activities. The implemented activities have contributed to enriching the spiritual and cultural life of members while creating an environment for exchange, providing and helping students have the opportunity to practice the necessary skills for their own improvement.Results achieved- The activities of the Student Association have been really promoted in the direction of increasing youthful activities, attracting a large number of students to participate: Student singing contest, Student Aerobic Competition, Welcome to new students, Summer Farewell, Humanitarian blood donation, Elegant female student contest, ... The Student Association of the School with the political core being the Youth Union has organized many large-scale activities: Student singing contest of 5 universities, Student Aerobic Competition of 09 universities in Hanoi, Hosting the World Population Day celebration with the participation of students from 6 universities in Hanoi, Hosting the New Student Gala - 2009 of Hanoi National University, ... - Encouraging the initiative and creativity of the units has brought about clear results with diverse activities associated with the professional characteristics of each unit, attracting a large number of students to participate: Oriental Night, Korean and Japanese Film Week version, China, Thailand, India (LCH Oriental Studies), Looking for a leader (LCH Sociology), Mr & Ms Language (LCH Linguistics Faculty), Periodic exchanges with writers and publishers (LCH Literature Faculty), Following the course of history (LCH History Faculty), French-language Gala (LCH Psychology Faculty), Management talent (LCH Management Science Faculty), Singing journalism (LCH Journalism Faculty), ... - Clubs under the School's Student Association continue to maintain regular activities that attract a large number of members to participate as well as create channels to support useful information for members: March Fragrance (SEG Group), Journey with you (TTSKSS Team), Exam season support (Assault Team), continue to publish the quarterly Voluntary magazine, maintain the svnhanvan.org forum, ...3. Social activities, volunteering, working together with the community General assessmentDuring the 2007-2009 term, social, volunteer and community activities continued to be implemented by the Student Association and attracted the response of a large number of student members. In addition to school-level activities, the branches and clubs were also proactive and creative in these activities.Results achieved* Voluntary activities during the year: Continue to maintain the annual Blood Donation activities in coordination with the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, the Hanoi Youth Union, as well as mobilize members to participate in common activities of Hanoi National University and the City. On average, each year, the school's members donate more than 200 units of blood. Continue to regularly provide support for disabled students in the school (Hoa Da Club), support the Thanh Xuan District Blind Association (mobilize students to buy bamboo toothpicks). Expand exchange activities in coordination with other units in organizing club activities: International Student Club, Green Journey Group, Management Talent Competition, Sociology Day, French-language Gala, ...5. Problems in the 2007-2009 termThe movement to study and follow the moral example of Ho Chi Minh associated with the orientation of building a disciplined and civilized school environment for the youth of the School has not achieved specific results, only stopping at the level of propaganda and mobilization. The work of building the association organization in some branches is still weak, the association activities in many branches and branches are not specific, not really affirming the position and role of the organization in the unit's organizational system. Consulting activities to support students, especially in supporting learning and scientific research, do not have many new features, only meeting the needs of a part of students. Although summer volunteer activities attract a large number of students to participate, they are still scattered and there are not many models that create great social efficiency, the professional content in volunteer activities is still low. The maintenance and development of club models compared to practical needs in the conditions of credit-based training is still limited. No solution has been found to maintain stable operations for most club models.

III. General assessment

The Association's activities and student movements in the 2007-2009 term of the Student Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities have achieved specific results. These results have contributed to affirming the position, role and contributions of the Association in the school's political system as well as in the general correlation of the National University Student Association and the Hanoi City Student Association. However, it must be frankly acknowledged that: with the requirements of practical work, the activities of the Student Association need to have faster and more practical changes. The Student Association needs to build a tight, flexible, quality organization in terms of personnel as well as operating mechanism, using association officials at all levels as the core to deploy activities quickly, effectively and practically with the goal of building the Association as a true training environment, a representative and a companion of each member and student.

Part 2: Directions of association work and student movement for the 2010-2012 term

I. Characteristics of the 2010-2012 term

The 5th Congress of the Student Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities took place in a context where the country, the capital and the University had many important events: The University was preparing to organize the 26th Party Congress and towards the 65th anniversary of its founding, the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi, and the 11th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. During the 2010-2012 term, the Association and student movement operated entirely under the credit-based training conditions. This continued to be a challenge and also an opportunity for the University's youth to promote their creativity and pioneering spirit, actively contributing to building a university learning environment with a long-standing tradition towards modern knowledge.

II. Goals and action slogans

The 5th Congress of the Student Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities for the 2010-2012 term marked a new step of development, improving the quality of the Union's work and the student movement. Inheriting and promoting the tradition of the Student Union of the University, the task of discussing and building the Union's work program and the student movement in the new term is extremely important. The Union's work programs and the student movement drafted above are the result of the efforts of the Executive Committee of the Student Union of the University, the result of the wisdom and energy of the youth of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, summarized from the practical student movement of the University, in order to best meet the requirements of the majority of members, students as well as society that are being placed on us. We believe and hope that, under the leadership of the superior organization, the Party Committee, the School Board of Directors and the support of the functional Departments, the Faculties, the close coordination of the School Youth Union, the Executive Committee of the Student Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities for the 2010-2012 term and all members of the School will successfully implement the Resolution of the 5th Congress of Delegates of the School Student Association.
