The selection rounds will take place from April 4 to May 15, 2011.The Hitachi Young Leaders Initiative (HYLI) is a community program launched by Hitachi Corporation in 1996. HYLI recognizes the leadership thinking and social responsibility of talented students from leading universities across Asia, helping Asia discover future leadership talent. Each country selects four outstanding students from its exemplary universities to participate in a forum. The forum provides a platform for international students to meet and discuss common regional and global issues. They also have the opportunity to share their perspectives with speakers who are leaders from Asian countries representing government, economic sectors, and academia. Six countries participated in the forum for the first time: Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. The program's resounding success encouraged Hitachi to continue and expand its scope. Vietnam has officially become the 7th country to participate in the 8th HYLI program.
