The workshop was divided into two sessions with the following topics: ASEAN press - similarities and differences; Challenges and opportunities for cooperation. The presentations contributed to an overview of the formation and development of ASEAN press; identified the basic similarities and differences between the press of each country; analyzed the ASEAN vision and new challenges and opportunities for the press of each country and the whole region; outlined ideas, goals and methods of operation for the press of the entire ASEAN region to develop to a higher level, to cooperate more closely for a prosperous ASEAN Community.

In his opening speech, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh emphasized the importance of press and media in building ASEAN in the spirit of “One vision, one community, one identity”. This workshop is a meaningful activity for scientists to share their views, knowledge and visions about ASEAN; about the role and contributions of ASEAN press to the development of the region. As a leading university in Vietnam, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has the responsibility and honor to contribute to promoting the close cooperation between scientists and press agencies in the region.

KAS representative, Mr. Peter Girke shared that: press and media is a major content and concern in the ongoing programs of KAS. Press and media are the bridge between the government, authorities and the people. It is important that press agencies demonstrate their professionalism on the basis of journalistic ethics and responsibility. This workshop is an opportunity to consider different perspectives from ASEAN countries on how the press and media operate to serve the community and the region.
Mr. Ho Quang Loi - Vice President of Vietnam Journalists Association
Representative of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Mr. Ho Quang Loi said: In the context of the complicated developments in the regional and international situation, it is necessary to enhance the role and responsibility of the ASEAN Journalists Confederation and the ASEAN press in enhancing understanding among peoples, promoting cooperation between countries, as well as upholding justice in resolving disputes and disagreements by peaceful means, in compliance with international law. The ASEAN press with high responsibility, directs public opinion towards good values, contributing to promoting the prosperous development of the ASEAN and international communities. In that context, this conference is the first international scientific forum on ASEAN journalism in Vietnam, creating opportunities for scientists to discuss and analyze the development of ASEAN press in aspects such as development stages, political trends, social responsibility, opportunities for cooperation and development, etc.
