Sun Yat-sen (November 12, 1866 – March 12, 1925) was a democrat, a leading figure in modern Chinese history. In 1905, he proposed the Tam Dan doctrine, and at the same time founded the Chinese Revolutionary Alliance to promote the Tam Dan doctrine and mobilize the masses against the Qing Dynasty. In 1911, he successfully led the Xinhai Revolution, opening a new era for the Chinese national democratic revolution. With profound impact, his Tam Dan doctrine is a valuable revolutionary experience for oppressed countries around the world to refer to in order to liberate their nations, including Vietnam. For example, the influence of Tam Dan doctrine can be seen in the goals and platforms of action of a number of Vietnamese patriotic organizations such as the Vietnam Restoration Association and the Vietnam Nationalist Party. The international scientific conference "Vietnamese Revolution and Sun Yat-sen" was organized to evaluate in detail his ideological influences on the Vietnamese Revolution in many aspects.
In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) emphasized that the theme of the conference is of great importance not only to scholars but also to ordinary people in Vietnam. Because the essential things for the Vietnamese people such as "Independence-Freedom-Happiness" are also similar to Sun Yat-sen's Three Principles of the People. The Rector hopes that at this conference, Chinese scientists will bring new perspectives on Sun Yat-sen to supplement existing research in Vietnam. The success of the conference also contributes to the relationship between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Sun Yat-sen Museum in particular and between Vietnam and Taiwan in general.
Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh delivered the opening speech at the conference.
In response, Dr. Lam Quoc Chuong (Director of the Sun Yat-sen Museum) thanked the University of Social Sciences and Humanities for creating conditions for Chinese professors, scholars and scientists to attend this conference. He agreed with Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh's view on the similarities between President Ho Chi Minh's ideology of independence and freedom and Sun Yat-sen's Three Principles of the People. He hoped that the conference would continue that spirit by strengthening exchanges and friendship in the relationship between the two countries, not just stopping at the scientific perspective.
