Sun Yat-sen (November 12, 1866 – March 12, 1925) was a democrat and a leading figure in modern Chinese history. In 1905, he proposed the Three Principles of the People and founded the Chinese Revolutionary Alliance to promote the Three Principles of the People and mobilize the masses against the Qing dynasty. In 1911, he successfully led the Xinhai Revolution, ushering in a new era for the national democratic revolution in China. With its profound impact, his Three Principles of the People served as a valuable revolutionary experience for oppressed nations around the world to learn from in their national liberation efforts, including Vietnam. For example, the influence of the Three Principles of the People can be seen in the goals and action programs of several Vietnamese patriotic organizations such as the Vietnam Restoration Society and the Vietnam Nationalist Party. The international scientific conference "The Vietnamese Revolution and Sun Yat-sen" was organized to provide a detailed assessment of the ideological influence of Sun Yat-sen on the Vietnamese Revolution in many aspects.

In his opening remarks at the conference, Professor Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) emphasized that the conference's theme is of great importance not only to academics but also to ordinary people in Vietnam. This is because essential values for the Vietnamese nation, such as "Independence, Freedom, and Happiness," share similarities with Sun Yat-sen's Three Principles of the People. The Rector hoped that at this conference, Chinese scientists would bring new perspectives on Sun Yat-sen to supplement existing research in Vietnam. The success of the conference would also contribute to the relationship between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Sun Yat-sen Museum in particular, and between Vietnam and Taiwan in general.

Professor Pham Quang Minh delivered the opening remarks at the conference.

In response, Dr. Lam Quoc Chuong (Director of the Sun Yat-sen Museum) expressed his gratitude to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities for facilitating the participation of Chinese professors, scholars, and scientists in this conference. He agreed with Professor Pham Quang Minh's view on the similarities between President Ho Chi Minh's ideology of independence and freedom and Sun Yat-sen's Three Principles of the People. He hoped that the conference would continue this spirit by strengthening exchanges and friendship between the two countries, and not just focusing on the scientific aspect.
