Professor Tatsuru Akimoto – Vice President of the International Association of Schools of Social Work – visited and worked with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on February 23, 2011. Receiving Professor Tatsuru Akimoto were Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Kim Son – Vice Rector of the University – along with representatives from the Faculty of Sociology and the Department of Social Work.President Tatsuru Akimoto stated that the International Association of Schools of Social Work, established in 1928, currently has 200 member universities worldwide. Every ten years, the Association holds a meeting to discuss and evaluate the social work profession globally. This year, the Association will also hold a conference to reassess social work with the theme "Interdependence and the Voice of Each Nation in Contributing to Social Work," to be held in Tokyo, Japan. The President expressed his hope that representatives from Vietnam would attend this conference, and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was the only representative invited. Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Kim Son thanked Professor Tatsuru Akimoto for inviting the University to the conference and affirmed that the University would send representatives to participate in the Association's activities. He also expressed his hope that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities would soon become a full member of the Association. Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Kim Son also expressed his hope that Professor Akimoto could participate in exchanging scientific research with faculty and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on a suitable occasion. The International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) is a broad global association of schools of social work, social work training programs at all levels, and social work educators. Its members are schools of social work from all over the world, grouped into five regional organizations: Asia and the Pacific, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and North America and the Caribbean.
