Vietnamese historiography in the context of integration and globalization.

On March 4, 2011, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi, in collaboration with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, organized a scientific conference entitled "Vietnamese Historiography in the Context of Integration and Globalization: Theoretical Issues and Methodological Approaches".
On March 4, 2011, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi, in collaboration with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, organized a scientific conference entitled "Vietnamese Historiography in the Context of Integration and Globalization: Theoretical Issues and Methodological Approaches".Attending the conference were Prof. Dr. Vu Minh Giang – Vice Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh – Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Van Sen – Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City. In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh affirmed the significant role of Vietnamese historiography in the history of the revolution as well as in the era of integration. Currently, the scope and subject matter of historical research are becoming increasingly profound and comprehensive, thus historiography faces many new opportunities and challenges. In this context, a conference addressing new approaches and research methods in history is extremely necessary. The Rector also expressed his sincere gratitude for the great efforts of researchers and experts from both within and outside the country. Following Professor Nguyen Van Khanh's remarks, Associate Professor Vo Van Sen affirmed that in the modernization process, the field of historical science, in order to uphold its traditions, needs the cooperation of historians to analyze and solve problems of national history, serving the development of Vietnamese historiography. At the plenary session, Professor Nguyen Thi Coi presented a paper entitled "The Role of Historiography in the Development of the Country in the Period of International Integration," Dr. Andrew Hardy reported on his research "Who Built the Truong Luong Wall (Quang Ngai)? Preliminary Results of Interdisciplinary Research," and Associate Professor Ha Minh Hong concluded the plenary session with a report on "Some Historical Issues and Perceptions of Southern Vietnam in the 20th Century." After the plenary session, the conference proceeded with discussions in four subcommittees with a total of 70 reports: Issues in the Theory of Historiography; Methods of Approaching History; Historical Research - New Perceptions; and Research, Teaching, and Training in History.
