Today, July 9, 2012, 3,909 candidates took the Literature exam for Group C at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities' Admissions Board. According to observations at exam locations AB, BC, and G of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, many candidates finished their exams earlier than the scheduled time. Most candidates interviewed commented that the exam was of moderate difficulty and closely followed the curriculum.Candidate Nguyen Thi Xuan (taking the Vietnamese Studies exam) said: "I found the Literature exam questions good and suitable for our abilities and aligned with the curriculum we've studied in the textbooks. The first question, about the beauty of the river in Hoang Phu Ngoc Tuong's work 'Who Named the River?', required students to both remember the text and be creative by asking them to compare it to the beauty of women and understand the meaning of the imagery the author used in the text. The second question, on social commentary, required candidates to understand the practical aspects of life and remember what the teachers had taught in the social theory section. Compared to recent years, this essay question wasn't too difficult and was within the students' reach. The third question was about appreciating the epic beauty of the character Tnu in Nguyen Trung Thanh's work 'The Xa Nu Forest.' I think this question is suitable for the basic curriculum that the teachers taught in school." Since this essay is about the epic beauty of the character's image in the work, incorporating literary theory into the essay will earn a high score. I think in this essay, you should discuss the epic nature and relate it to other relevant works to clarify the image of Tnu. Confidently, I hope my essay will receive a score of 7 or higher.

Regarding the first question, many candidates did poorly because they had overlooked studying this work thoroughly. Pham Thi Trang (taking the exam for Tourism and Travel Service Management) said: "The exam wasn't difficult, but I couldn't answer the first question because I didn't remember it. This work was rarely mentioned in the curriculum and review sessions, and besides, when we studied it, many of us didn't find it interesting, so we didn't enjoy studying it." Tran Nguyen Toan (taking the exam for Social Work) commented: "This year's Literature exam was average, neither easy nor difficult. But I couldn't answer the first question because I didn't focus on reviewing Hoang Phu Ngoc Tuong's work." Hoang Thi Xuyen (taking the exam for Social Work) said: "I didn't expect the exam to include the work 'Who Named the River?' I only remembered a little, so I only did moderately well."

Meanwhile, the social commentary question received mixed opinions from candidates. Phung Thi Minh Thao (Psychology major) said: "The social commentary question was a good one. I had learned how to write a commentary essay, so I was able to answer it." Vu Duc Toan (History major) said: "This year's exam wasn't too difficult, but the most challenging part was the social commentary question because I didn't fully understand the issue of opportunism." Sharing the same view, Pham Duc Thang (Social Work major) said: "This year's Literature exam was easy for me, closely aligned with the curriculum. The teachers had already reviewed the essay format and how to write a commentary essay, but the question about opportunism was a bit difficult for me."

Among the exam questions, the question analyzing the epic beauty of the character Tnú, which is part of the Standard curriculum, was chosen by the majority of candidates. This was also the question that most candidates felt most confident about because it is a representative work in the high school curriculum, so few skipped it. Pham Thu Thao (taking the Literature Education major) said: "The Literature exam was easier than last year because, among the parts I had studied, analyzing the character Tnú was relatively easier than analyzing characters in other works. This was also the question I was most sure of; I remembered and wrote down everything my teacher told me about this character." Pham Thu Thao also optimistically believes she can get 7.5 to 8 points on today's exam, and with such a not-too-difficult exam, most other students will be able to do well.
