What does the Fulbright Scholarship offer?

Scholarship recipients will pursue a master's degree program in the United States beginning in the 2010-2011 academic year. The Fulbright Program in Vietnam will find a suitable institution for successful applicants. Scholarship recipients will receive full tuition coverage, a monthly stipend, round-trip airfare to the United States, and health insurance.

Who is eligible to apply?

  1. As a Vietnamese citizen;
  2. I have a bachelor's degree.
  3. Applicants must have at least one year of work experience from the date of their university diploma to April 1, 2009;
  4. A minimum TOEFL score of 550 (internal) equivalent to 79 (iBT) or a valid IELTS score of 6.5 is required.
  5. They must not be employees or dependents of employees working for the U.S. diplomatic mission in Vietnam;
  6. Applicants must not have a Bachelor's or Master's degree from a US university obtained within the last 3 years.

Which fields of study are recommended?

The Fulbright Program encourages fields of study in the social sciences and humanities such as American Literature, American Studies, Education, Communication, Journalism, International Relations, Social Work, Public Policy, Economics, Business Administration, Public Health, Library Science, Public Administration, English Language Teaching, Gender and Women's Studies, Environmental Studies, Fine Arts and Performing Arts, Law, Information Technology Management and Information Systems… (Please contact the Fulbright Program if your field of study is not on this list).

How do I submit my application?

To participate in the program, applicants must submit:

  1. An application form (accessible at the website):http://vietnam.usembassy.gov/fvst.htmlThe application package includes: Two essays (one outlining learning objectives and one personal essay), and a resume.
  2. Certified copies of diplomas and transcripts (with certified English translations);
  3. Three letters of recommendation;
  4. TOEFL/IELTS certificates;
  5. A sample signature.

Application deadline?

5:00 PM, April 1, 2009, at the Fulbright Student Program, Cultural and Information Office, U.S. Embassy, ​​7 Lang Ha Street, Dong Da District, Hanoi.
