Fulbright Scholarship for Master's Degree in the United States, 2010-2011 academic year

Established in 1946 and funded by the U.S. Congress, the Fulbright Program aims to achieve mutual understanding through educational and cultural exchange. It is a merit-based, competitive program. Approximately 20-25 scholarships are awarded each year. Since 1992, more than 400 Vietnamese students have participated in the program.

What does the Fulbright scholarship provide?

The scholarship recipients will pursue a master’s degree in the United States beginning in the 2010-2011 academic year. The Fulbright Program in Vietnam will match successful applicants with appropriate schools. The scholarship recipients will receive full tuition, a monthly stipend, round-trip airfare to the United States, and health insurance.

Who can apply?

  1. Is a Vietnamese citizen;
  2. Have a bachelor's degree;
  3. Have at least one year of work experience from the date on the university diploma to April 1, 2009;
  4. Have a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (internal) equivalent to 79 (iBT) or IELTS 6.5 with valid validity.
  5. Not be an employee or dependent of an employee working for the US Diplomatic Mission in Vietnam;
  6. Must not have received a Bachelor's or Master's degree from a US university within the last 3 years.

What majors are recommended?

The Fulbright Program encourages majors in the social sciences and humanities such as American Literature, American Studies, Education, Communication, Journalism, International Relations, Social Work, Public Policy, Economics, Business Administration, Public Health, Library Science, Public Administration, Teaching English, Gender and Women's Studies, Environmental Studies, Fine Arts and Performing Arts, Law, Information Technology Management and Information Systems, etc. (Please contact the Fulbright Program if your major is not on this list).

How to apply?

To participate in the program, applicants must submit:

  1. An application form (accessible at website:http://vietnam.usembassy.gov/fvst.html) includes: Two essays (one presenting learning objectives and one personal essay), a resume;
  2. Notarized copies of degrees and transcripts (with notarized English translation);
  3. Three letters of recommendation;
  4. TOEFL/IELTS certificate;
  5. A sample signature.

17:00, April 1, 2009 at the Fulbright Student Program, Cultural Information Office, US Embassy, ​​No. 7 Lang Ha, Dong Da, Hanoi.
