Associate Professor Dr. Nishimura Masanari was a Japanese scholar with over 20 years of research on Vietnam in the fields of Archaeology, History, Culture, and Anthropology, with Archaeology being his most significant contribution. He was interested in Vietnamese archaeology both broadly and deeply; in both spatial aspects (regions and ancient cultures) and diachronic aspects (from prehistory to historical periods). He conducted hundreds of archaeological excavations, explorations, and investigations in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. In June 2013, Associate Professor Dr. Nishimura Masanari died in a traffic accident while investigating relics in Bac Ninh. He decided to donate his entire archive to a training institution in Vietnam to express his affection for the country, its people, and its culture.
