21st Student Scientific Conference - Faculty of Information and Library Science

Recently, on March 14, 2017, the Faculty of Information and Library Science held its 21st Student Scientific Conference in room E304. This event is part of a series of university-wide scientific conferences, taking place throughout the weeks of March and April each year.

The conference was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan – Vice Rector of the university; and Mr. Doan Viet Hai – Head of the Scientific Research Management Department.

Among the distinguished guests, the conference was attended by Ms. Kieu Thuy Nga, M.Sc. – Director of the National Library of Vietnam; Mr. Nguyen Huu Gioi, M.Sc. – Standing Committee Member of the Vietnam Library Association, former Deputy Director of the Library Department - Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Pham Van Vu – Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Association for Scientific and Technological Information; representatives from the Vietnam Library Journal, and representatives from the Library Information Journal.

Overview of the conference

The Department of Library and Information Science was represented by Dr. Nguyen Van Hung – Head of Department; Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Van – Deputy Head of Department; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Quy – Chairperson of the Scientific Research Council of the Department of Library and Information Science, former Head of the Department of Library and Information Science. In addition, the conference was attended by postgraduate students and undergraduates interested in scientific research.

The conference featured presentations of 12 scientific research papers from students and student groups. Most of the research topics revolved around issues specific to the field of Library and Information Science.

Dr. Nguyen Van Hung – Head of the Department of Information and Library Science – provided feedback and suggestions to improve the research papers.

Specifically, all 12 research topics focus on issues such as books, library management systems, information literacy in schools, etc. Each graduate student will present their report within a limited time, after which the evaluation committee will provide feedback and ask questions to further refine the research.

Ms. Kieu Thuy Nga, Director of the National Library of Vietnam, shared her thoughts on the practical relevance of topics related to books in preparation for the Vietnam Book Day celebration (April 21).

According to the general assessment of the evaluation committee, the topics presented this time are all highly practical and have specific application targets, while also exploring many new aspects of the Information and Library Science field.
