At the recent 2017 Conference summarizing the training activities of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, one of the conclusions that received high consensus among delegates was the need to strengthen the interdisciplinary connections between training programs within the university. This is also a common trend among universities worldwide today, aiming not only to ensure students have a solid foundation of knowledge in their respective fields so they are capable of working after graduation, but also to create opportunities for students to access and expand their foundational knowledge in related fields. Students will also find it easier to pursue double degrees or accelerated studies to shorten their training time and increase their job opportunities. Furthermore, increased interdisciplinary connections make training programs more flexible, open, and facilitate better organizational and management processes.

Vice Rector Hoang Anh Tuan chaired a meeting to discuss adjustments to elective courses in the M3, M4, and M5 knowledge blocks of the curriculum.
The university leadership presented the basic direction to increase the interconnectedness of training programs, with the general principle being to adjust the elective courses in the M3, M4, and M5 knowledge blocks. Core courses belonging to the compulsory knowledge blocks of each major will be retained to ensure the identity of the major. In addition, faculties will consider and select necessary courses from related majors that are suitable for their field of study to supplement the elective knowledge blocks of the training programs. This elective portion will not exceed 15% of the total workload of the training program. The university's training management department will support the faculties with advice and technical assistance to ensure that this adjustment complies with the university's regulations and general policies. Based on increasing the number of elective courses, the university will allow students to choose courses according to their needs and career orientation.

Vice Rector Hoang Anh Tuan emphasized that this is a minor adjustment that will not significantly disrupt the overall curriculum, so the university will strive to complete this work as soon as possible so that these changes can immediately have an effect on this year's new cohort of students. During the meeting, representatives from the faculties exchanged ideas and proposed solutions to the university leadership for implementing this policy in practice.
