Agree on the plan to organize the conference "Psychology in Southeast Asia"

The meeting aimed to unify opinions and proposals on organizing the international scientific conference “Psychology in Southeast Asia” at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities from November 28 to December 1, 2017. On behalf of the collective leadership of the University and the Faculty of Psychology, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University) summarized the results of the internal discussion session on the Vietnamese side. In a short time, the organizing committee and the content committee of the Vietnamese side discussed in detail the basic issues of the conference. Above all, the Rector pledged that the University will do its best to make the conference successful and attract the participation of representatives from many agencies, departments, and organizations at home and abroad.

In response, Dr. Janel Gauthier expressed his gratitude for the thorough preparation of the School with the necessary work of the workshop in a relatively short time. He hoped that the workshop would create connections in the Southeast Asian psychology network, especially through psychology training facilities at universities. In addition, the workshop needs to create diversity in topics, reflecting different interests in the psychology community in the region and more broadly in the world. This will greatly contribute to the mission of the World Association of Applied Psychology to build a network among psychology researchers in the region and around the world.

At the meeting, the two sides reached preliminary agreement on issues such as the preliminary program of the workshop, key topics, list of speakers and delegates, funding, workshop language, etc. The two sides also agreed to exchange and regularly update information about the workshop.

The international scientific conference “Psychology in Southeast Asia” will be co-organized by the World Association of Applied Psychology, the Institute of Psychology - Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU, the Chinese Psychological Association and the Australian Psychological Society. The conference will be held in parallel with psychology training sessions in Hanoi, Vietnam. The purpose of the conference is to strengthen the connection in the research, training and practice aspects of psychology in the region, as well as to create opportunities for Southeast Asian psychologists to contribute to the development of psychology worldwide through the exchange of research, training and practice experiences with each other.
