A new direction for Iranian studies in Vietnam.

On March 31, 2016, Associate Professor Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi) met and worked with former Iranian Ambassador to Vietnam Seyyed Kamal Sajjadi and Director of Al-mustafa International University Mohamad Ibrahim Zerafati to discuss the development of Iranian studies in Vietnam and cooperation between the two universities. Also attending the meeting were the Iranian representative and coordinator in Vietnam, S. Rohollah Sajjadi, and Associate Professor Do Thu Ha from the Faculty of Oriental Studies.

During the meeting, both sides outlined directions for the development of Iranian studies in Vietnam and expressed their desire for cooperation between the two universities.

The director of Al-mustafa International University, Mr. Mohamad Ibrahim Zerafati, hopes that educational cooperation between the two universities in particular, and between the two countries in general, can be strengthened, thereby promoting a more solid relationship between Vietnam and Iran.

Specifically, he hopes to establish an Iranian studies center in Vietnam; and further, to open a field of Iranian studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. With hopes for the future development of Iranian studies in Vietnam, the Iranian government and Al-Mustafa International University are ready to offer numerous scholarships to students and faculty members of the university.

Furthermore, he expressed confidence in the strategic vision and the strong, professionally competent faculty of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, stating that the Iranian government and Al-mustafa International University are ready to award scholarships to students and offer short-term courses for the university's lecturers.

He stated that developing Iran studies and centers for Iranian research is also a way to gain a clearer and deeper understanding of Iran.

On behalf of the university, Associate Professor Hoang Anh Tuan expressed his delight at the past achievements and future directions of both sides.

On behalf of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Associate Professor Dr. Do Thu Ha thanked the former Iranian ambassador and Al-Mustafa International University for their cooperation in teaching and research activities, as well as student and faculty exchanges between the two universities over the past period.

Associate Professor Dr. Do Thu Ha also believes that, with the advantages in diplomacy, culture, and education between the two countries, as well as the help and support from the school's leadership, cooperation between the two countries will reach new milestones.

With 18 years of research on Iran, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has organized 4 photo exhibitions, 5 seminars, 5 books and 3 issues of a specialized journal on Iran, 3 talks about the people and country of Iran, 4 Persian language courses, and has also trained 6 master's and 3 bachelor's students in Iran. In addition, there was a visit and signing of a memorandum of understanding between former Rector Nguyen Van Khanh and 3 Iranian universities (Tehran University, Esfrahan University, Azad University and NXb SAMT), along with many film screenings and art performances at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Hanoi.
