The US Deputy Secretary of State will visit the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on April 21st.

On April 13, 2016, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) met and worked with Ms. Lisa Wishman, Press Attaché of the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam. Also present were representatives from the Cooperation and Development Office, the Political and Student Affairs Office, and the Faculty of International Studies.

The US Deputy Secretary of State will visit the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on April 21st.

During the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) stated that...As a leading training center in Vietnam, the University annually sends hundreds of faculty and students abroad for scientific exchange and receives a similar number of foreign teachers and students to visit and work at the University. Particularly in its research and teaching programs, the University prioritizes expanding and strengthening cooperative relationships with countries that have strong educational systems in order to study and learn from the experiences of these nations.The school has partnerships with many American universities such as the University of South Carolina, the University of Connecticut, Ohio University, etc.

Following this, Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh discussed in detail with Ms. Lisa Wishman the upcoming visit of US Under Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken. It is expected that Mr. Blinken will visit the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on April 21st and deliver a speech to 400 students on the US rebalancing policy in international relations in Asia and its implications for bilateral Vietnam-US relations. Mr. Blinken will also spend time interacting with and answering questions from faculty and students. In addition, the event will be attended by media outlets interested in the topic. The event will be held on the 8th floor of Building E, University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh and representatives from various departments of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities discussed with Ms. Lisa Wishman the plan for organizing the visit.

Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh expressed his gratitude to the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam for acting as a bridge for the upcoming visit of the Deputy Secretary of State to the University. This event will convey the message of the U.S. Department of State, and the United States in general, regarding the shift in American interest towards Asia and the Vietnam-U.S. relationship. In particular, it will serve as a stepping stone for the upcoming visit of U.S. President Barack Obama to Vietnam. The Deputy Secretary of State's speech will not only be significant for Vietnam-U.S. relations in general but will also help students, lecturers, and researchers at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to better understand and contribute to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

Over the past few years, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has welcomed many politicians, high-ranking officials, and renowned scholars to visit the University. Most recently, on November 17, 2011, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities welcomed the Governor General of Canada, David Johnston, who delivered an important speech on the topic of "Multiculturalism" to a large audience of faculty, staff, and students in the auditorium on the 8th floor of building E.
