US Deputy Secretary of State to visit USSH on April 21

On April 13, 2016, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) received and worked with Ms. Lisa Wishman - Press Attaché of the US Embassy in Vietnam. Also receiving the delegation were representatives from the Office of Cooperation and Development, the Office of Politics and Student Affairs and the Faculty of International Studies.

At the reception, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) said,As a leading training center in Vietnam, the University annually sends hundreds of staff and students to scientific exchanges abroad and welcomes a similar number of foreign teachers and students to visit and work at the University. Especially in research and teaching programs, the University advocates expanding and strengthening cooperation with countries with strong educational development in order to study and learn from the experiences of countries around the world.The school has relationships with many American universities such as the University of South Carolina, the University of Connecticut, Ohio University, etc.

Next, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh discussed in detail with Ms. Lisa Wishman about the upcoming visit of US Deputy Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken. As scheduled, Mr. Antony J. Blinken will visit the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on April 21 and give a speech to 400 students of the University about the US rebalancing policy in international relations in Asia and its implications for the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and the United States. Mr. Antony J. Blinken will also spend time interacting and answering questions from lecturers and students of the University. In addition, the event will also have the participation of press and media agencies interested in the above topic. The event will be held on the 8th floor of Building E, University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Quang Minh and representatives of departments of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities discussed with Ms. Lisa Wishman about the plan to organize the visit.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh expressed his gratitude to the US Embassy in Vietnam for being the bridge for the upcoming visit of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs to the University. This event will convey the message of the US State Department in particular and the US in general about the shift of US interest to Asia as well as the Vietnam-US relationship. In particular, this will be a stepping stone for the visit of US President Barack Obama to Vietnam in the near future. The speech of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs will not only be meaningful to the Vietnam-US relationship in general but also help students, lecturers, and researchers of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities understand more deeply and contribute to strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

In recent years, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has welcomed many politicians, high-ranking officials and famous scholars to visit the University. Most recently, on November 17, 2011, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities welcomed the Governor General of Canada, David Johnston, to visit and deliver an important speech on the topic of "Multiculturalism" to a large number of lecturers, staff and students at the 8th floor Auditorium of Building E.
