Signing of cooperation agreement with Japan Global Education Group

On October 3, 2017, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) on behalf of the University signed a memorandum of cooperation with the delegation of the Global Education Group of Japan (GES) led by Mr. Onda Takayuki (Chairman of the Group). Also attending the signing ceremony were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities), representatives of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, the Office of Cooperation and Development, the Office of Politics and Student Affairs.

At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh reaffirmed the success of the exchange program “One Belt – One Road” organized by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in collaboration with GES. The Rector said that the University wishes to continue to cooperate with GES in this program as well as other forms of cooperation such as academic exchanges, organizing seminars, and organizing talks. This is part of the internationalization strategy that the University is implementing, including expanding relations with Japanese partners and other countries. On a personal level, the Rector invited Mr. Onda Takayuki to attend the international conference “China’s Belt and Road Initiative: Opportunities and Challenges” organized by the University and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (Germany) on October 6, 2017.

In response, Mr. Onda Takayuki expressed his gratitude for the enthusiastic cooperation in the “One Belt – One Road” program as well as the organization of the “From Ruins to Revival” Exhibition by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. He affirmed that these cooperative activities will contribute to promoting the relationship between the two countries in particular and multilateral cooperation between countries in general. Because the mission of GES is to promote peace and narrow the differences between countries around the world.

Next, the leaders of both sides signed the cooperation memorandum. Accordingly, GES committed to: propose, connect and promote cooperation between partners (universities, institutes, funds, scholarship funds, etc.) with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities; propose regular programs for students of partner universities with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities; introduce scholarship programs for students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities; support the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in finding financial resources and organizing short-term field courses for students of the University. In return, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities committed to: nominate undergraduate/graduate students for scholarship programs; receive and implement regular programs for students of GES's partner universities; support GES in connecting with Vietnamese partners. This cooperation memorandum is valid for 5 years from the date of signing.

On August 21, 2017, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Japan Global Education Group jointly organized the “One Belt – One Road” research and exchange program for outstanding students from three major universities in China: Beijing Normal University, Renmin University of China and Jiangsu Normal University. Students listened to lectures on Vietnamese history, culture, economy and the traditional and future Vietnam-China relationship; experienced Vietnamese culture with activities such as visiting historical and cultural relics, city tours, etc. in Hanoi.
