International project “Connecting Vietnamese and Australian higher education institutions to address the challenges of internationalization”

That is the name of the Project within the framework of the 2017 Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's initiative to connect research units and scientists between Australia and ASEAN, chaired by Dr. Doan Ba ​​Ngoc, School of Education, University of South Australia (South Australia). The project was implemented from September 2017 to December 2018 with a focus on promoting the connection between the University of South Australia and Vietnamese higher education institutions to improve the ability to learn, teach and research on EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction). This is a growing trend in Asian countries in an effort to internationalize teaching, training and research activities at the university level.

The main activities of the Project include: 01 7-day training course at the University of South Australia for university lecturers from Vietnam, focusing on modern educational methods and the use of English as a medium of instruction and research (4th week of March 2018); 03 training courses at Vietnamese partner institutions, with the participation of 150 university lecturers, to share the results of the lecturers who participated in the training at the University of South Australia and exchange skills in using English in teaching and research; participating in the organization of 01 international scientific conference in Hanoi on the possibility of implementing EMI in Vietnam.

The executive team for this project includes Dr. Doan Ba ​​Ngoc (University of South Australia, team leader) and members: Dr. Pham Anh Toan, Dr. Pham Van Min, Dr. Tran Van Kham, Dr. Nguyen Trang (SEAMEO, Ho Chi Minh City) and MSc. Nguyen Van Tuyen (University of Danang).

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi is the main partner participating in and implementing project activities such as organizing training courses and hosting seminars at the school. The Project Management Team will discuss with the school leaders about the content of selecting lecturers to attend the training in South Australia, the training program and the plan to organize seminars at the school.

The University of South Australia is a multidisciplinary university training unit of the State of South Australia, currently has more than 30,000 students at all levels of training, including nearly 5,800 international students studying and researching at 6 campuses of the school. The University of South Australia is ranked 24th in the world among universities under 50 years old (according to QS), ranked 8th among Australian universities and is in the top 200 universities in the world (according to THE). The University of South Australia has cooperated with more than 2,500 training and research institutions in the world, including the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi since 2012. Up to now, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has had 5 staff studying Master's and PhD programs and exchanging at the University of South Australia in the fields of international studies, library information, social work and human resource management.
