The international project "Connecting Vietnamese and Australian higher education institutions to address the challenges of internationalization"

This is the name of a project within the framework of the 2017 Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's funding of initiatives connecting research institutions and scientists between Australia and ASEAN, led by Dr. Doan Ba ​​Ngoc, School of Education, University of South Australia (South Australia). The project ran from September 2017 to December 2018, focusing on fostering collaboration between the University of South Australia and Vietnamese higher education institutions to enhance learning, teaching, and research capabilities in EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction). This is a rapidly developing trend in Asian countries as they strive to internationalize teaching, training, and research at the university level.

The main activities of the Project include: a 7-day training course at the University of South Australia for university lecturers from Vietnam, focusing on modern educational methods and the use of English as a medium in teaching and research (week 4 of March 2018); three training courses at partner institutions in Vietnam, with the participation of 150 university lecturers, to share the results of the lecturers who participated in the training at the University of South Australia and exchange skills in using English in teaching and research; and participation in organizing an international scientific conference in Hanoi on the feasibility of implementing EMI in Vietnam.

The project management team includes Dr. Doan Ba ​​Ngoc (University of South Australia, team leader) and members: Dr. Pham Anh Toan, Dr. Pham Van Min, Dr. Tran Van Kham, Dr. Nguyen Trang (SEAMEO, Ho Chi Minh City) and MSc. Nguyen Van Tuyen (University of Da Nang).

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, is the main partner participating in and implementing project activities such as organizing training courses and chairing workshops at the university. The Project Steering Team will discuss with the university leadership the selection of lecturers to attend training in South Australia, the training program, and the plan for organizing workshops at the university.

The University of South Australia is a multidisciplinary university in South Australia, currently with over 30,000 students across all levels of study, including nearly 5,800 international students studying and researching at its six campuses. The University of South Australia is ranked 24th globally among universities under 50 years old (according to QS), 8th among Australian universities, and in the top 200 universities worldwide (according to THE). The University of South Australia has collaborated with over 2,500 educational and research institutions worldwide, including the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, since 2012. To date, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has had five faculty members pursuing Master's and Doctoral programs and exchange programs at the University of South Australia in the fields of international studies, library and information science, social work, and human resource management.
