A scientific seminar on the topic "Choosing a left-wing theoretical model for the socialist-oriented market economy in Vietnam" was jointly organized by the Center for Policy Research of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation on November 23-24.The seminar was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim – Vice Rector, scientists and experts from the Federal Republic of Germany, researchers and managers from universities, research institutes and centers, and departments and agencies of Hanoi City. The opinions of scientists and managers from the Federal Republic of Germany and Vietnam focused on exchanging experiences and theoretical issues in the process of researching left-wing theoretical models for the socialist-oriented market economy in Vietnam: the humanistic aspects of the socialist-oriented market economy, social work, cultural aspects, business ethics in the socialist-oriented market economy, the issue of democracy and the rule of law, environmental protection, and disaster prevention in the face of rapid global climate change... Professor Vu Cao Dam – Director of the Center for Policy Research and Analysis – in his introductory report to the seminar, stated that after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the system of socialist countries in the world and the decline of the international communist movement, the world has been witnessing the emergence of new trends, such as the movement to establish the Fifth International in Latin America with the planned convening of a founding conference in April 2010, but This has not yet happened. Besides, the world has been witnessing the development of the Leftist movement in Europe, striving for a prosperous economy and a just and democratic society. Professor Vu Cao Dam emphasized that the idea that policymakers are pursuing regarding a socialist-oriented market economy model has many rich contents. According to Associate Professor Nguyen Ngoc Ha (Institute of Philosophy), ensuring social justice is a fundamental content of the socialist-oriented market economy development model in Vietnam. To achieve social justice, Vietnam needs to strengthen the fight against corruption, enhance legal discipline, and allocate more funds to the social security fund. Looking at it from the humanistic perspective of leftist theory, Associate Professor Nguyen Thi Thuy Van (Faculty of Philosophy – University of Social Sciences and Humanities) analyzed the relationship between law and ethics in economic development. Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thuy Van argues that, in order to solve some fundamental problems in the process of building and developing the socialist-oriented market economy in our country today, especially the negative consequences of market economic development, it is necessary to regulate the relationship between law and ethics, and to apply flexibility and transform ethical norms into laws and vice versa to solve practical problems. Ethical norms existing in legal form are an effective solution to partially limit the negative impacts of economic development on social life. In addition, several other opinions have discussed various issues related to choosing a left-wing theoretical model for the market economy: Associate Professor Dr. Luong Dinh Hai (Institute of Human Studies) addressed the issue of "market economy and left-wing theories in the current global crisis"; Associate Professor Dr. Tran Ngoc Hien (Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Public Administration) is interested in the "issue of democracy and the rule of law," Dr. Kiriese Katharina Konstanze (Federal Republic of Germany) spoke about a new left-wing platform in Germany – social conflicts, left-wing proposals, and public discussions within the Party… “Choosing a left-wing theoretical model for the socialist-oriented market economy in Vietnam” was one of the seminars under the project “Choosing a left-wing theory in a changing world” supported by the Rosa-Luxemburg Foundation and implemented in collaboration with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in 2009-2010 and 2011. Within the framework of the project, many activities were carried out, such as: a seminar on “Choosing a left-wing theory in a changing world” in September 2009, a seminar on “The inheritance of Marxist thought in the current left-wing movement” in June 2010, and a seminar on “The theoretical basis of the Left from a Marxist perspective” in 2010 and… In particular, many studies have been and are being conducted focusing on left-wing theoretical issues and the development of the left in the world… The topics discussed in this seminar will contribute to supplementing our understanding and experience regarding the research process of left-wing theory in our country today.
