Representing the university were Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the university, Dr. Pham Hoang Hung - Head of the Cooperation and Development Department, Dr. Trinh Van Dinh - Head of the Scientific Research Management Department, Dr. Pham Van Hue - Deputy Head of the Training Department, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong - Deputy Head of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Dr. Nham Thi Ly - Lecturer in the Faculty of Oriental Studies, and Dr. Tran Hanh Nguyen - Specialist in the Cooperation and Development Department.
Among the guests were Ms. Tran Chi Vi - Director of the International Chinese Language Education Academy and Director of the Overseas Education Academy, Ms. Luu Uyen Ngoc - Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Department, Ms. Quach Kien Hoa - International Chinese Language Education Academy/Overseas Education Academy, and Mr. Tuong Ngoc Thap - Head of the Examination and Admissions Department.
Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and Ms. Tran Chi Vi, Director of the International Chinese Language Education Academy and Director of the Overseas Education Academy, highly appreciated the potential for cooperation between the two training institutions.
Rector Hoang Anh Tuan shared: The University of Social Sciences and Humanities always promotes the effective implementation of student and faculty exchange programs and organizes international scientific conferences with many universities and research and training institutions around the world. Among them, China is one of the important partners in training and scientific research development for the University, with over 60 partner universities and research institutes in China spread across cities such as Guangdong, Yunnan, Shanghai, etc.
Alongside maintaining the quality of traditional collaborative training programs such as 2+2, 3+1, 3.5+0.5, etc., the University also focuses on developing new, attractive teaching approaches with flexible schedules and curricula suitable for a wide range of students. Notably, in 2023 alone, nearly 200 Chinese students were being trained at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities – an achievement thanks to the trust of Chinese students in the highly practical and richly-structured training programs.
Rector Hoang Anh Tuan affirmed that, as leading research and training institutions in the social sciences and humanities, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Xiamen University will achieve breakthroughs in cooperation through faculty exchange and research development. This will serve as a foundation for the two institutions to organize numerous workshops, publish scientific publications, and create more scholarship opportunities for exchange students between the two universities in particular and Vietnam and China in general.
During the meeting, Ms. Tran Chi Vi, Director of the International Chinese Education Institute and Director of the Overseas Education Institute, shared similar views on the direction of cooperation with Professor Hoang Anh Tuan. She shared: Xiamen University is a comprehensive educational institution with strengths in social sciences. The university has over 45,000 students, including a large number of Vietnamese students. Xiamen University places particular emphasis on developing Chinese Cultural Centers worldwide, with over 200 faculty members engaged in teaching and research. In particular, research on Southeast Asia is one of the university's key research areas – also a strength of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities – and will serve as a basis for future research cooperation.
Previously, representatives from Xiamen University also had discussions with the Department of Oriental Studies - University of Social Sciences and Humanities regarding cooperation in training bachelor's degree students in Chinese Studies under the 2+2 and 3+1 models; combining summer camps and internships; exchanging lecturers and students; and scholarship opportunities for students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to study at Xiamen University.
