Management Science in the process of innovation and international integration
On October 25, 2012, the Faculty of Management Science - University of Social Sciences and Humanities organized a scientific conference with the theme "Research, training and development of the field of Management Science in Vietnam in the process of innovation and international integration".The workshop was attended by delegates from universities, research institutes, and management agencies involved in training in the field of Management Science. In his opening remarks, Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh – Vice Rector of the University – emphasized: This year, the Faculty of Management Science is celebrating its 10th anniversary. This workshop is an opportunity to look back on a decade of growth and development of the Faculty in training, scientific research, and building its staff and lecturers. At the same time, the workshop aims to deepen the relationship between theoretical research and training with management practice in Vietnam and around the world, towards improving the training programs of the Faculty of Management Science to meet the increasingly high demands of society for human resources, and developing research directions of the departments within the Faculty.

In his introductory report at the conference, Dr. Tran Van Hai – Head of the Faculty of Management Science – stated: The objective of the conference is to analyze the achievements and shortcomings of the scientific research and training process in management science, and to propose core directions for the development of training and research in management science in the context of international integration in Vietnam. Discussing the undergraduate training program of the Faculty of Management Science, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Hang (former Rector, former Head of the Faculty of Management Science) in his presentation "The undergraduate training program of the Faculty of Management Science: progress and new opportunities and challenges" stated: The undergraduate training program of the faculty has been reformed many times, specifically undergoing three major adjustments. The first was the gradual development of the undergraduate program in Social Management Science. In the second phase, building upon this training framework, the Bachelor of Science in Management program was compiled, clearly defining the specialized areas: management theory and methods; administrative management; human resource management; management of social issues; intellectual property; and science and technology management. Recently, the program underwent its third revision, focusing on output standards. This revision concentrates on three core values of the output standards: attitude, knowledge, and in-depth skills, ensuring that the output meets the requirements of practice. Discussing the issue of promoting scientific research and the development of management science in our country during the period of reform and international integration, Professor Dr. Duong Xuan Ngoc – former Deputy Director of the Academy of Journalism and Communication – suggested that, in order for scientific research activities to continue to affirm and further develop the Management Science Department in training institutions, several key solutions need to be implemented, such as: building a professional and specialized scientific team; Policies are needed to increase investment in infrastructure and public service funding for scientific research activities; to build and implement mechanisms and solutions, and to closely coordinate between training, research institutes, and businesses to utilize and disseminate research results and to realize innovative ideas in scientific research.

Several other presentations and discussions at the conference addressed specific issues in research, training, and development of the Management Science field at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in particular, and the Management Science field in Vietnam in general.
