On behalf of the House leaders, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim delivered a speech emphasizing the increasingly important role of the media sector as a pioneering, connecting and decisive force in many aspects of economic and social life.
The speech also shared information: if in 1995 less than 1% of the world's population knew about the Internet, now, according to the latest data from Internet World Statistics, nearly 50% of the world's population uses the Internet. Vietnam is ranked 8th in the world in terms of Internet usage time with nearly 5 hours/day, and ranked 12th in the world in terms of average time spent on social networks.
This reality also requires new perceptions of thinking and communication methods as well as communication management to serve the local and global competitiveness of world and Vietnamese media.
In that context, this scientific conference is a meaningful activity to promote a clearer awareness of the characteristics, roles, multidimensional impacts and development trends of communication management and crisis management in the context of social media communication.

From many perspectives, the discussions have contributed specific assessments of the role and tasks of media management in the new era, especially in the context of strong development of digital technology and social media, with the multi-dimensional and complex impacts of the globalization process. In both theoretical and practical aspects, these studies contribute to helping media agencies perform well the functions of mass media agencies, promote the leading role on the ideological and cultural front, and contribute to orienting public opinion on domestic and international issues according to the viewpoints of the Party and the State. At the same time, businesses and agencies are also shared many valuable practical lessons in media management, responding to and handling media crises.
