After reading this small book, you will love travel even more and empathize more with the author's thoughts: “I began my journeys with the enthusiasm and recklessness of a young horse eager to gallop across the grandeur and wonder of the world. The further I went, the more I felt myself sinking, until now I am a snail inching along the endless earth. Slowly, I walk and absorb the dust of the roads. The stories of the local people are the mirrors that illuminate my path, letting me know that I am just a tiny grain of salt, while the ocean is forever vast.” In her book, Nguyen Phan Que Mai humorously reveals that the reason she has been able to travel so much is because she has a very large mole on the middle of her right foot. Try looking down at your feet.

Moreover, being a poet, wherever she goes, wherever she is, the poetic soul of a poet helps her not view people and life through a superficial lens. She quietly seeks deeper, broader dimensions." Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu once remarked, "There is one thing I have noticed, and this is extremely important for Nguyen Phan Que Mai. That is, each of her trips to a place is not the way of a tourist or a researcher, but the way of someone who comes there to live out their life. ...She recounts what she witnessed with such passion, so passionately that at times it seemed as if she and I were lost in those places, with no hope of ever finding our way back..." |
